Job overview

Required to start in September 2020

We are looking for a qualified Teacher who is able to teach History and RPE combined.

History is taught throughout the 11 - 18 age range and at all levels and ability. We enjoy results significantly above the national average.  KS3 has a varied and engaging curriculum which flows chronologically but gives both breadth and depth opportunities.  All groups in KS3 and KS4 are mixed ability.  At key stage 4 we follow the Edexcel GCSE specification covering the Normans, Medicine through time, the Cold War and Mao’s China. History is popular at A-level with 2 different pathways offered from the AQA A-level specification which gives specialists the opportunity to share their love for their period.

Religion, Philosophy and Ethics is taught throughout the 11 - 18 age range at all levels of ability and achieves results above the national average. It is a compulsory GCSE subject for Years 9 and 10. At the end of Year 10 all students sit the full course AQA Religious Studies GCSE. Students take the GCSE seriously as they understand the skills that it enables them to develop.

Both departments are founded upon a love of subject which is at the heart of all we do. History at Hinchingbrooke has a special place in many pupils and parents' hearts because of the amazing environment that the Hinchingbrooke House provides as a backdrop to the History studies and RPE is highly regarded due to the tradition of high quality teaching in the department.

Both areas offer collaborative departments who work hard to develop themselves as well as the students and as a result History has an excellent uptake at GCSE and both History and RPE run very popular A-level courses. Linked to this the History department has a close relationship with the Prince’s Teaching Institute which enables them to develop History not only within the school, but also in others. Therefore, Hinchingbrooke really is a place to grow and flourish as a Humanities practitioner.

The successful candidate should be enthusiastic about their work with young people and have a genuine concern for their development as individuals.

The school sees the form tutor as a key role in the support, development and welfare of the students and teachers are expected to undertake this role with the same standards and commitment as their subject role.

The role will suit either newly or recently qualified, enthusiastic and aspirational teachers or those with good and outstanding practice who wish to share their expertise and make a difference. The school offers a bespoke CPD programme, research and development, links and networks with other outstanding schools as well as a plethora of extra-curricular and cross-curricular working opportunities.

Why come to Hinchingbrooke?

This is a fantastic school to work in: on interview, we ask candidates for their impressions of the School and without fail they comment on how wonderful our students are, the positive team ethos amongst staff and how friendly and welcoming the School is.

If you are an outstanding teacher it really is worth applying for this post and joining somewhere special.  We are seeking to appoint a candidate who is passionate about their subject area; a team player who will thrive on collaboration and team work. Someone who really wants to make a difference!

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Hinchingbrooke School values the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

Closing date: Monday 30th March 2020 (noon)

Interview date: Tuesday 31st March 2020 via Skype
