TEACHER OF MANDARIN

Full Time, One Year Fixed Term contract (in the first instance)

Grade TMS / NQT

Finham Park Multi Academy Trust (MAT) is delighted to announce that we are recruiting a Mandarin teacher to work across the Secondary Schools within the MAT.

This is an exciting opportunity as we are one of the first Trusts in England selected to participate in the Mandarin Excellence Programme - a new intensive language programme funded by the Department for Education.  The nationwide programme offers students an unprecedented opportunity in terms of language provision and aims to see at least 5,000 school pupils in England on track towards fluency in Mandarin Chinese by 2020. We will be at the forefront of delivering the programme – with support from the UCL Institute of Education and the British Council.

In being the most widely spoken language in the world, Mandarin Chinese is recognised as one of the most important languages for the UK’s future. The programme therefore provides a fantastic opportunity for students to acquire vital language skills at an early stage – something essential for work and for life in an increasingly connected world. Students on the programme will study eight hours of Mandarin Chinese every week – including four hours of classroom taught lessons – with selected groups of pupils beginning from Year 7.

We are seeking to appoint an innovative and highly motivated teacher of Mandarin. You will be joining a team of enthusiastic Modern Language Teachers who are committed to delivering a high quality, lively, interesting curriculum to challenge and inspire all our students.

Finham Park is a popular and successful 11 -18 comprehensive school situated in the south west of Coventry. It has an excellent reputation within the local community as well as nationally and internationally. The school was re-accredited as a World Class School in July 2018.

Ofsted described the school as a place where there is a strong culture of learning and a proven track record of academic success, with students consistently making above average levels of progress in their studies in both Key Stages 4 and 5. The behaviour of the students is Outstanding.

Their eagerness for learning allows our teachers to deliver stimulating and innovative lessons that result in rapid progress. There is a clear focus on the development of teaching and learning through engagement in national research programmes with a strong structure of support at all levels. In addition, there is personalised programme of professional development and extensive opportunities for career progression.

The school is well resourced. New technologies are widely available and are helping to transform teaching and learning across a diverse range of subjects. In addition, ongoing investment has been made to the whole site - recently by upgrading science laboratories, STEM workrooms and the construction of a sixth form centre.
