Welcome to Ada!

We are the Government’s National College for Digital Skills, a high performing technical college with the mission of educating and empowering the next generation of diverse digital talent. We currently employ 45 staff members educating just under 400 students across the sixth form and apprenticeships, working with a fantastic range of industry partners from Google and Deloitte through to the MHRA and a range of SMEs.  As a small but fast-growing college with campuses in Tottenham Hale, Whitechapel and Manchester, we have a very diverse student body from a wide range of backgrounds and are committed to using tech as a tool for social mobility.

Maths is established as a popular choice on our Pioneer and Innovator pathways. We offer A-Level Mathematics and Further Maths, and the Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) programme. We are looking for an excellent teacher of Mathematics to join this successful department..

Based in the Sixth Form campus in Tottenham Hale, you will work with an aspirational group of teachers and students who are super passionate about computing and digital skills. Our ambition is to grow our student volumes as our reputation grows while maintaining the high quality and unique nature of our cohort.

About the role

You will work closely with the Head of Mathematics to develop high quality content and deliver excellent lessons. For experienced practitioners, there may be opportunities for you to lead on elements of the course suited to your individual expertise.

As a Teacher of Mathematics

● You’ll teach mathematics to Ada students, maintaining outstanding standards of teaching, learning and assessment.

● You’ll take part in the process of curriculum development and change, ensuring the continued relevance of the mathematics curriculum to the needs of students and to examining and awarding bodies’ requirements.

● You’ll support the college in developing an inventive approach to teaching, learning and assessment so that all students are challenged effectively and enabled not simply to get high grades but also to gain an excellent understanding of the subject which propels them into successful futures.

● You’ll provide useful feedback on students’ progress to the college, to parents/carers and to students themselves.

● You’ll participate in the learning community of Ada teachers, by observing colleagues and welcoming observations in return, by contributing to discussions around teaching and learning, and by attending professional development activities.

● You’ll collaborate with industry partners to support and enhance the teaching and learning of Mathematics.

As a Team Leader

● You’ll take responsibility for the care, guidance, support and progression of a Team (tutorial group).

● You’ll ensure all students observe Ada policies relating to behaviour, attendance and other matters, and that they take proper care of Ada’s environment and resources.

As a member of staff

● You’ll contribute to a programme of extra-curricular and academic enrichment activities.

● You’ll take part in recruitment events such as Open Evenings, Taster Days and Interview Days, some of which take place on weekday evenings or at weekends.

● You’ll lead or assist offsite trips and visits (any necessary training, for example around First Aid or Risk Assessment, will be provided).

● You’ll embody and promote the college values.

● You’ll help create a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment for every student.

● You’ll always prioritise the safety and well-being of students by following the college’s Safeguarding policies and practices.

About you

You’ll need

● A degree level qualification in a relevant subject

● Qualified teacher status / PGCE / Lecturer qualification

● Experience of teaching at Level 3 

We’re particularly keen to hear from you if you have

● Experience teaching Further Mathematics at Level 3

● Pastoral experience, for example as a tutor

● Knowledge of industry, ideally the tech sector, and ideas about how to invigorate the curriculum by harnessing industry’s challenges and ways of working 

You should be able to demonstrate

● Enthusiasm for teaching Mathematics at a high standard

● Ada’s values: Curiosity, Creativity, Collaboration, Rigour and Resilience

● Excellent organisational and time management skills

● Strong collaborative working skills

● Engaging communication and presentation skills

At Ada, the National College for Digital Skills, we have a mission to work with industry to design and deliver an education that empowers all our students, especially women and those from low-income backgrounds, to progress into highly skilled digital roles and lead flourishing lives. Ada was announced by the Prime Minister in December 2014; England’s first new FE College since 1993, we opened our doors at our main campus in Tottenham Hale for the first time in September 2016. Since then we’ve gone from strength to strength including a Good with Outstanding features in our first and second Ofsted inspections.

The digital industry is experiencing epic growth but there is a talent shortage. Over 130,000 tech jobs are available each year in the UK but students are leaving education without sufficient knowledge and experience to get the job. We want to change this.

With Ada, students can learn relevant digital skills to pursue their dream job in tech. We are a unique community which puts computer programming at the heart of everything we do. Our students are the future game changers: challenging the norm, excited by change, and resilient in the face of adversity.

We want to remove the glass ceiling for women and individuals from low-income backgrounds in the tech industry. Everyone, from any background, is entitled to a quality education and a better future. Our community is united by digital so we work closely with Haringey Council and the local community to ensure the inclusion extends beyond the walls of Ada.

Location & Provision:

As of May 2021, we have 145 16-19 students enrolled, these students study the academically stretching BTEC in Computer Science along with a range of complimentary A-Levels.

Our Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships in Digital Innovation (aligned to the Software Developer Standard) and Data Analytics and Visualisation (aligned to the Data Analyst Standard) have almost 200 apprentices enrolled from a range of organisations.

Our curriculum is academically stretching but practically rigorous and truly embedded with industry. Students are provided with a one on one coach from industry and employers help design and deliver our curriculum and careers advice. The positive impact to students and employers is demonstrable.

We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved in just four years, we have had some fantastic successes and plans for more to come.
