Job overview

Required September 2024, a well-qualified, enthusiastic teacher of Mathematics to join a strong, dedicated and dynamic leadership team to drive and further improve an already highly successful department which has a unique and distinctive international curriculum and ethos. The Anglo European School is a comprehensive school with a curriculum informed by a strong international dimension and with pupils who demonstrate outstanding personal development and who achieve consistently above national averages in public examinations. All members of staff working at the school support the aims and ethos of the school and participate in the extensive visits programme and are supported by well- established well-being and professional development frameworks.

The school’s vision is underpinned by three core aims: to achieve academic excellence through a broad and balanced, international curriculum; to foster inter-cultural understanding underpinned by the study of languages to allow students to communicate and move confidently beyond the boundaries of their school and home community and to develop distinct and aspirational pathways for the future for all students in our care.

To be successful you will need to be a strong classroom practitioner, with a track record of improving standards, modelling the tenacity and the integrity required to deliver high quality teaching and learning. We are looking for teachers who aim to remove barriers to learning, communicate a passion for their subject that inspires, motivates and enthuses students about Mathematics. For a teacher who is looking to develop their leadership skills, this post includes a TLR for leading and managing teaching, learning and assessment, in order to maintain the highest levels of progress and achievement in Mathematics courses.

In 2023, the Mathematics Department achieved 85% grades 9-4 at GCSE with 100% grades 9-1. It is also a very popular subject in our outstanding Sixth Form with 42% of the 6th form students studying a Mathematics course. In 2023, 33% of the A level students gained A*-B grades and 71% of the IB students gained grades 7-5 (on both Maths Analysis and Maths Applications courses).

The Anglo European School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We encourage applicants from under-represented backgrounds. Anglo European School is committed to providing equal opportunities for all employees and increasing diversity in education.

The school is located in the village of Ingatestone in Essex with easy access to the A12 and M25. Ingatestone is also only a 30-minute train journey from Liverpool Street station.

About Anglo European School

Anglo European School is a 11-19, co-educational comprehensive school situated in Ingatestone, Essex. It has approximately 1,415 students.

The school was opened in 1973 after the closure of a secondary modern school led locals to campaign to keep the school open and the Local Authority, Essex, decided to establish a school with a “European Dimension”.

Anglo European School serves local needs but also draw students from across Essex and parts of London. In 1977 it became the first UK state school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and in 1995 the first comprehensive school to become a specialist Language college. In 2005 the school established the first co-headship model in a state secondary school.

As a centre of excellence for language learning, the school offers Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish as well as English as an Additional Language and Latin.  Up until age 16 all students study two languages other than English.

In the sixth form, students must study one language. They have a choice of A-levels or an opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma. There is also the chance to study selected parts of the IB Diploma with A-levels. In addition, the International Baccalaureate Career Programme provides an internationally recognised vocational qualification.
