Job overview

TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS

(temporary maternity Cover with potential for Full-Time post in due course)

At Moreton Hall we are passionate about Mathematics. With a large number of girls going on to study STEM subjects at university and around half the Sixth Form taking one STEM subject, we are looking for an exceptional Mathematics teacher to join our STEM Department.

The successful candidate would work with our STEM Team to ensure the delivery of first class teaching across the school with particular emphasis on GCSE and A Level teaching. The profile of Moreton Hall as a Centre of Excellence for STEM teaching for girls (and also boys in Moreton First) has been growing year on year and we are looking for a candidate to join a team that is committed to building on this reputation.

The position is available from February 2020.

This is initially a temporary Maternity Cover post from February 2020 but there may be potential to transition into a new post possibly being created from September 2020.

The successful candidate will be a Mathematics specialist but the ability to teach another STEM subject (including Design Technology or Computer Science) would be highly desirable, particularly with regard to the potential full- time opportunity from September 2020.

The successful candidate would be expected to:

• Teach Mathematics to GCSE and A Level

• Participate in the extra-curricular STEM activities offered by the department

• Be familiar, confident and innovative with the use of ICT in STEM teaching

• Assist in the development of STEM as a career choice for pupils at Moreton Hall

• Assist with the delivery of a programme of outreach to local schools

• Be collegiate and work well within our successful team

• Moreton Hall is one of the leading girls’ (and boys’ to Year 6 in Moreton First) boarding and day schools in the country and has been commended for the excellence of its teaching and learning. As a non-selective school, we have been placed top in Value Added nationally for the past three years.

The department is thriving and the success is mirrored in the examination results averaged over the last 3 years:

Mathematics GCSE: 7% achieved a Grade 9 (National 4%)

21% achieved a Grade 8+ (National 10%)

39% achieved a Grade 7+ (National 19%)

Mathematics A Level: 28% achieved an A* (National 16%)

62% achieved either A*/A (National 42%)

75% achieved A* to B (National 63%)

You would join a successful, friendly STEM Department and would be expected to participate fully in the life of this busy boarding school. A strong commitment to our extracurricular activities programme would be of particular importance. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, reliable and flexible in approach.

Good accommodation may be available

The salary, which is superannuated, is on Moreton Hall’s own scale, and is linked closely to the National Pay Spine, carrying generous extra benefits for residential duties as well as a daily lunch free of charge for all staff.  Further details of the school are obtainable from the Independent Schools Year Book, Tatler’s School Guide, The Good Schools’ Guide and the school’s Website www.moretonhall.org.

The school, which currently has nearly 500 pupils (girls 4 - 18 years, boys 4 - 11 years), is situated midway between Shrewsbury and Chester with excellent road and rail links to the Midlands and the North of England.

Moreton Hall Educational Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Closing date for application will be 5pm on Monday 14th October with interviews taking place week commencing Monday 21st October.
