We are looking for a Mathematics teacher who is passionate about supporting young people who have often found school a challenge.

A teacher who shares our determination to improve our students’ life chances and give them learning opportunities which stimulate and excite.

Our ideal candidate would be an experienced KS3/ KS4 teacher who wants to develop their practice and experience more dynamic ways of engaging children in learning. We are seeking a teacher who will:

- be committed to tackling disadvantage and improving every student’s wellbeing and life chances

- demonstrate the highest quality of teaching, learning and assessment

- inspire our students

- work closely with our headteacher, STEMV pathway lead, our staff, parents/ carers and our students to deliver our vision and help make our ambitious plans for the academy a reality.

Plan and teach interactive, exciting lessons which engage all our KS3 and KS4 pupils - including those facing barriers to learning and those with social, emotional, mental and health needs.

- Have an up-to-date knowledge of KS3/ KS4 maths curriculum (including GCSE criteria) and a desire to teach in an innovative, creative and exciting way which engages reluctant learners.

- Work closely with your colleagues to produce high quality learning resources and plan expeditionary learning activities.

- Link your lessons to the world of work, British Values, and SMSC where appropriate.

- Use data about each student to inform your classroom practice and planning.

- Assess and give students feedback regularly in conjunction with the OA marking and feedback policy.

- Set high expectations and maintain a positive and safe learning environment.

- Facilitate good student progress and positive outcomes - inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.

- Direct the work of other staff in the classroom to maximise their impact on learning.

- Use the ‘Dare to be Olive’ approach to ensure that high expectations for behaviour are maintained.

- Act on child protection concerns immediately; read, understand and implement OA’s safeguarding policy and procedures, and Keeping Children Safe in Education.

- Be a role model to our students, showing leadership, resilience, and empathy.

- Fulfil wider professional responsibilities.

- Coach a group of students, mentoring them through their time at the academy.

- Work with parents, carers, local school and outside agencies to ensure each student’s needs are best met.

- Support the trust’s values and ethos by contributing to the development and implementation of policies, practices and procedures.

Olive AP Academy - Thurrock

Just 40 minutes from central London by train, Olive AP Academy - Thurrock is based in Tilbury. Our brand new building opened to staff and students in summer 2017. The academy was graded as 'Good' in all areas at its last Ofsted inspection in December 2018.

We work with pupils who have been permanently excluded from school and those who have medical needs.  Our alternative provision academy has up to 96 students aged between 11 and 16 on roll at any one time.

Olive AP Academy – Thurrock is part of the Olive Academies Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), approved by the Department for Education. Established in 2013, it is one of the first academy sponsors specialising in alternative provision in England.

Our aim is to transform the lives of children and young people for whom traditional teaching methods have not worked. We help our pupils develop the confidence, skills and knowledge to believe that they can be successful in their own lives.
