We would welcome applications from teachers who may be interested in part-time work next year with a view to converting this contract into a full-time, permanent contract at the end of the academic year. However, we would also be interested in applications from candidates who are interested in full-time or part-time work on a fixed-term basis.

We would be interested in candidates who have leadership experience in schools, and would like to explore how this may be applied and developed at Melbourn Village College.

We would equally welcome applications from ECTs.

Mathematics across the Trust

As a trust we believe in excellence for all and the maths departments in our schools embody this. Our pupils make fantastic progress thanks to the enthusiastic, dynamic members of staff who are supported to teach in a style which suits them. We believe in a strong emphasis on problem-solving at all levels, we regularly enter pupils for the UKMT challenges and attend many extracurricular AMSP events to inspire our students. We have two local AMSP coordinators based in Comberton Village College. Our schools have a strong focus on supporting students with SEND needs and as maths departments we work with TAs in the classroom so that these students make excellent progress.

The Cambridge Maths Hub is based at Cambourne Village College and staff in all four of our secondary schools have been involved with the hub either by attending courses or by facilitating on courses. We also have several staff who have secondments to the hub for part of the week. Recently as a trust we have had a shift towards integrating mastery teaching into our maths curriculum, so we have staff in different cohorts of mastery specialist training. As a trust, there is a strong focus on CPD, with programmes in place to support the development of staff in their ECT years and beyond. St Peters school have made excellent use of an additional period of joint PPA time where the whole department can meet weekly to allow for collaborative planning and discussions on pedagogy.

Our maths departments all have access to department offices which create a collaborative space for staff to work. We subscribe to Sparx maths as a trust to reduce staff workload with setting homework and to support individualised pupil learning. Three of our four secondary schools have now set up iPads so that students have 1-1 devices, classrooms have Apple classroom which work well with teacher iPads to allow for ease of presenting and monitoring.

Our departments are made up of a diverse range of people, we have a strong track record of welcoming part-time teachers, we are also proud of the fact that our maths departments have a variety of specialisms where staff have backgrounds not just in maths but in engineering, law, computer science, and sports science as well as many other areas. Where we have non-specialists joining the teams, we are supportive in their development of subject knowledge and transition to becoming a maths specialist.

If you would like to find out more about this role, or you would like to arrange a visit, please contact the Trust Director of Education, Paul Lawrence plawrence@catrust.co.uk

ECT’s

·        We have a strong track record of supporting and developing our ECTs. Our programme includes:

·        A carefully structured induction programme in the first year with weekly ECT meetings.

·        Access to trust-wide ECT events and maths-specific ECT events run by the Cambridge Maths Hub.

·        A maths-specialist ECT mentor, with timetabled fortnightly mentor meetings.

·        A reduced timetable to allow additional opportunity to observe and learn from colleagues, including nationally renowned maths educators.

·        Many of our maths teachers have been supported to complete their Master’s in Education degree in their second year of teaching.

·        Access to the development opportunities offered through our teaching school alliance (camteach.org.uk) and our Maths Hub (cambridgemathshub.org).

The post would provide excellent opportunities for personal development within well-organised and forward‑looking departments and a Trust that has professional development as a core value.

We are seeking candidates who believe in continuous improvement and see the value of reviewing and developing the philosophy and practice of the department.

The successful candidates will need to meet the requirements of a general teacher job description and person specification.

We believe our schools can offer you a very good professional environment and a lively and friendly place in which to work.

All staff are inducted in child protection processes and have a responsibility to operate within the school’s policies on this.

To apply for this position please submit an application form and cover letter to Mrs T Tull, Trust HR Manager, by 9am on Friday 24 May. Visits to the Maths departments are welcome by arrangement.
