Job overview

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is right at the forefront of Maths education, both in terms of ensuring students are taught maths for deep understanding, and in enabling every student to leave school with a Maths qualification that opens doors for them. We have a curriculum that allows for this and the training and support for teachers to feel confident to facilitate this for all.

Our Executive Director leads the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub. This, as well as her work with the DfE, means OGAT Maths is helping to inform and mould the landscape of Maths, regionally and nationally. We have a great training package for NQTs and teachers new to the academy including: Teaching for Mastery; Open Classroom events; Maths Matters; TSST; Reasoning at KS3; weekly professional development time and further programmes free through the Outwood Institute of Education. We invest in you, so you invest in our students.

We welcome applications for our Central Yorkshire region of the Trust from teachers of any experience, who love Maths and have a passion to develop this in others. You could progress quickly across our Family of Schools if that was what you were looking for, through Maths leadership or through our Deeps structure; but, if you just want to be the best Maths teacher you can be, then we are also the Trust for you!

Applications will be considered for academies within Wakefield and North Yorkshire, this will be discussed with you in more detail at the interview. The academies in the central region are:

• Outwood Grange Academy

• Outwood Academy Freeston

• Outwood Academy Ripon

• Outwood Academy Easingwold

Please note applicants should be eligible for the below incentives. For teachers of Maths, there is a retention incentive. Full details can be found in the link below but in summary:

- any teacher starting teacher training in 2018 – 19 / 2019 – 2020 will be eligible;

- payments will be made in their 3rd and 5th year of teaching; and

- they will receive a retention payment £5000 with some areas eligible for £7,500 (see attached overview as to which of our academies will qualify for the higher payment) - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mathematics-early-career-payments-guidance-for-teachers-and-schools?utm_source=ddccac7a-d5a1-4bd7-a5f3-9fe321f53a75&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=govuk-notifications&utm_content=immediate

If you require any further information about this post please contact Melanie Lee, Regional Director Maths on m.lee@outwood.com

In line with the Government’s announcement, our academies are closed until further notice. However, we are still busily planning ahead for the forthcoming academic year and are excited about welcoming new recruits to come and join us. In place of academy-based interviews, we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are still available via skype/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage.

Understandably, visits to the school are not possible at present, however we are really keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academies or the position, please contact Melanie Lee, Regional Director Maths by email and she will be happy to assist: m.lee@outwood.com

Closing date: Midday on 15 June 2020.

Interview date: 18 June 2020.

We are an “Outstanding” 11-18 academy, based in the market town of Easingwold in North Yorkshire, near York and were rated Outstanding by Ofsted in its report published in September 2022.

Part of the Outwood Family since 2018, we are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on ensuring everyone has the right to learn, with a curriculum designed to stretch and enrich our students’ experience. We champion routes into higher education providing a vibrant, supportive and largely academic sixth form.

Our Ofsted report published on 21st September 2022 said “Outwood Academy Easingwold is an aspirational and nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to excel. Staff have the highest expectations of what pupils can achieve and ensure that they meet them.” They also stated "This is a caring community where pupils and staff value and appreciate each other."  About our curriculum they wrote "The school’s ‘intrinsic’, ‘academic’, ‘enhancement’ and ‘elective’ curriculums combine to ensure that pupils receive an exceptional education."

Playing an active role in our local community is important to us and we regularly work with community members of a range of projects. Our sports hall and 3G sports pitch is also available for hire, giving the local community access to state of the art sporting facilities.

We have won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

Our success led to us appearing in the Sunday Times School Guide 2020, where we ranked as the 14th best school in the North and the 235th best school overall in the country.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
