“Education is Success”

An opportunity to work in the only non-private Academy in London that offers both International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes at KS5

Our school

Westminster Academy is an Outstanding International Business and Enterprise academy and IB World School serving a diverse community of 11-18 year olds in Central London. The Academy is proud of its work to improve outcomes for students in an inclusive, supportive environment. As a member of the collaborative WA community you will have the opportunity to work alongside an exceptionally talented group of colleagues who are committed to continued professional growth and improvement of the student experience. You can find out more about us on our website, here

Teaching at WA

WA’s ethos is committed to developing the best teachers to give our students the best possible education. We aim to use, disseminate and promote a research-led approach to develop classroom practice that enables all students to thrive and make progress. The International Baccalaureate (IB) promotes pedagogies that are student-centred and inquiry-led, and this has inspired our current strategic aims, which are looking to embed and develop these strategies further. To achieve this, we prioritise and devote generous funding to teacher professional learning, both in-house and external, to support our staff at the different stages of their teaching and leadership careers.

Our Maths department

Our Maths department has transformed student outcomes and succeeded in inspiring a love of maths learning at Westminster Academy through the dedication of staff, their exceptional subject knowledge and the department’s forward-thinking approach to data and the curriculum. The Maths department is highly regarded among our student body for the care and personal support offered to students. We are now looking for an innovative teacher to join this successful team.

Our Maths curriculum

The Maths department achieved outstanding results at GCSE in 2022 with 80% of grades 9-4 and 34% grades 9-7. The department prides itself on its belief that every student can be successful at Maths; as such we teach in mixed ability settings at Key Stage 3 and then stream groups at Key Stage 4. We have a strong five year curriculum, which builds depth in knowledge through problem solving and mastery, and allows students to explore mathematics outside of the classroom through regional and national competitions with the UKMT. The department has been the driving force behind the Academy's adoption of the Google suite, developing the use of technology in the classroom through chromebooks and leading staff training to share best practice in this area. As an International Baccalaureate school, our Sixth Form students follow exclusively the IB Diploma or the IB CP programmes. In 2022, 97% of our Diploma students achieved grades 7-4 and 100% of the Careers related programme students achieved grades 4 or above. International Baccalaureate Maths offers teachers specialised training with the IB, challenging content and the chance to approach Maths with a global perspective. We are a unique department since all of our Sixth Form students study a post-16 Maths course, supporting our vision of Maths being an inclusive subject that develops critical thinking and essential life and employable skills. Using technology, students are encouraged to probe the reasons for learning and the relevance of maths in the world around them. It is a matter of pride that we offer both the Application and Interpretation, and Analysis and Approaches courses at Higher Level and Standard Level.

 The ideal candidate will be:

  • An excellent classroom teacher who is committed to the success of each individual student
  • Experienced in teaching Maths with a relevant university degree
  • Able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to their own professional growth and development
  • A flexible approach to teaching cross curricular subject areas

 What we offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package
  • Additional responsibilities remunerated via an Extra Responsibilities Allowance (ERA)
