About Whitley Bay High School
Whitley Bay High School is a mainstream, non-denominational, community secondary school for boys and girls aged 13-18. It is situated in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear. This large school caters for 1,600 pupils, around 550 of whom attend the sixth form. It offers a broad curriculum and a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
Whitley Bay High School was selected as one of the first 100 teaching schools in the UK, with special responsibility across the region to lead training to create outstanding teachers. It has also been named as a National Support School because of the quality of its teaching and exam success.
In 2013, the school received an "outstanding" rating from Ofsted. Two years later it was named in the top 100 highest performing secondary schools, thanks to strong GCSE results. Its sixth form is also nationally recognised and its A-level results place it in the top 3% of all UK school and college sixth forms.

Values and vision
Whitley Bay High School is built on an ethos of positive relationships and a desire to help students develop a love of learning. Teachers strive to instil high self-esteem in their students, to help them grow into confident, sensitive and reflective adults.
Although the secondary school is large, it works hard to create a small-school community atmosphere. It recognises its students as individuals who are all different, but also equal. It believes in strong collaboration with parents to help children achieve their potential.
Ofsted report
“Whitley Bay High School provides an outstanding education for its students. Students, staff and parents hold the school in great esteem. Comments such as, ‘I am proud to be a member of the school community’ from a student, and ‘I have loved every day of my career at this school’ from a member of staff, illustrate this well. All groups of students make outstanding progress from their starting points, so that they leave Year 11 with standards that are well above those found nationally."
