Job overview

The role

We are excited to offer the opportunity for a talented professional to teach Music at Parkside Community College. We are looking for someone with a vision for achieving outstanding outcomes and a remarkable experience for our students, in line with United Learning's Framework for Excellence.  The music department is based in its own block, with practice rooms. There is the support of a technician and close collaboration with teachers across the Arts and Technology. Music forms part of the core Key Stage 3 curriculum and is also taken as a GCSE subject in Key Stage 4.

Parkside Community College

Parkside Community College is part of the Cambridge cluster within United Learning and is committed to bringing out ‘The Best in Everyone’ through an education that develops rich knowledge and character.

Parkside Community College is a highly oversubscribed school with a long history of success and an excellent reputation for innovation in education. We are situated in three sets of buildings, with the main site, overlooking Parker’s Piece, opening in 1913. We offer 120 places in each year group and believe deeply in the power of ‘human scale’ education, where every student is very well known and strong relationships help teachers to support their classes to exceptional outcomes.

Out intake is diverse: we have a large proportion of higher attainers on entry; we also have significant profile of Special Educational Needs. We have many students join us from overseas, with a range of ability in English, both in the main school and in the 6 th Form.

United Learning

The Cambridge Cluster joined United Learning lately, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our Subject Advisors, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole.  We always appoint on merit. We are open to discussing flexible working options.

‘This is a small school where pupils enrich their understanding of a much wider world’ – Ofsted, 2023

Parkside Community College is a small caring school situated in the very heart of Cambridge, with incredibly high expectations in all aspects of school life.

We are proud of our achievements in helping our students to thrive for excellence. Our GCSE performance in 2023 places us in the top 30 schools in England for progress. We are always looking to improve what we do. Our community helps us to remain a leading school in Cambridge and beyond. We expect all of our staff members, students, and parents to 'play their part' in making Parkside a great place to learn and to grow. We also place a great emphasis on our value of responsibility, on good citizenship and ethical decision-making in all years.

We are very proud to have again been judged 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in April 2023.
