We are looking for a Music Teacher who can contribute creatively to all aspects of musical life at a large school where Music is a valued part of the curriculum and plays a prominent part in school life. There is the opportunity to teach KS4 and KS5 Music in a well-equipped department alongside leading a variety of groups as part of our strong extra-curricular programme that includes two annual concerts and a number of outreach opportunities.
Haydon is a large, inclusive school with a thriving and well-supported Performing Arts and Media Faculty. The Music department is in a modern, purpose-built part of the school. Each teaching room has two practice rooms attached to facilitate group work; there is a suite of iMac computers with a recording studio and control room to facilitate the teaching of Music Technology at KS4 and KS5 as well as a set of practice rooms for instrumental tuition and student practice.
We have an evolving KS3 curriculum as we transition to a two-year KS3 and three-year KS4 model and there are will be opportunities to help the newly-appointed Head of Music to shape the curriculum for Year 7 and Year 8. We have a good uptake for both Music and Music Technology at KS4 with a pathway to continue to KS5. Results in these areas continue to improve and we would expect the successful candidate to be motivated to continue this improvement.
There is a thriving extra-curricular programme with a mixture of teacher and student-led groups covering orchestras, choirs, Jazz, Soul and Pop bands. It would be an important part of the role to support these groups in preparing for our annual Christmas and Spring concerts in addition to other local performance opportunities outside of the school.
The school provides a place to work that is highly supportive, where staff welfare is a top priority, with a commitment to helping teachers develop their practice individually. For NQTs, there is a well-established programme to support your progression through this year and beyond. Likewise, for more experienced practitioners, there are a range of development opportunities, including the school’s own Conference day on Teaching and Learning.
We are looking for passionate Teachers of Music to thrive in our supportive environment. Whether you are a new teacher looking to do your NQT year in a supportive and happy school where personal development is at the centre of everything we do, or a more experienced teacher looking for a school where your passion and ideas will be welcomed enthusiastically, we would love to hear from you.
