Teacher of PE and Games in Charge of Rugby

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, committed and personable graduate to play a full role in the department and teach PE through Years 7 to 13. We are looking for the successful candidate to have a coaching specialism in Rugby, with good coaching knowledge of other sports. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and be responsible for the developing rugby programme in an experienced and successful department for Sport. We have a number of students who have represented the county and also been selected to be part of the Saracen’s Developing Player Programme.
Ashford School has recently benefitted from significant investment in sports facilities which include three indoor swimming pools, fitness suite, dance studio, two sports halls and two full size flood lit Astroturf pitches. Grass pitches totalling 25 acres have been developed in the last year and include 3 cricket squares, 5 rugby pitches and a 400m athletics track. To provide fantastic views of the pitches and also accommodate 4 changing rooms, work on a modern and eye-catching pavilion is already underway and is aiming to be completed by April 2019. This recent investment in facilities has been supported by a similar investment in staff. The large department of PE specialists is supplemented with external coaches, many of which have or currently play at the highest level.
These resources are in place to support the schools’ competitive sport for all ethos. Our sports programme is accessible to all and tailored to meet the aims of our pupils. The ambition to field competitive teams in all major team games, swimming, biathlon, triathlon, athletics and tennis is relished, but is no more important that providing opportunities that will promote lifelong participation in sport. The role that competitive sport plays in developing character is widely celebrated as are the sporting achievements of our increasing number of pupils who compete at County, Regional and National level.

The successful candidate would be expected to organise a full fixture list and have overall responsibility for the standard of coaching delivered that enables students to progress and reach their full potential.
