Job overview
Full Time
September 2021
Introduction
Hill House seeks an enthusiastic, well qualified and committed person to join this very important Department from September 2021.
Physical Education and Sport are key areas at Hill House. In addition to an increasingly competitive fixture list, a ‘sport friendly’ timetable, and success at regional and national competitions, the school has recently developed a high quality sports’ ground, a high performance gymnasium and an AstroTurf hockey pitch.
The School
Hill House is the leading co-educational independent school in South Yorkshire. It is an exciting and expanding school of some 700 children from age 3 to 18, where teachers can teach and children can learn. The school was founded in 1912 and occupies a splendid site outside the South Yorkshire town of Doncaster.
In an £8 million move, the school relocated from an urban site in September 2008, and now occupies stunning facilities, harmonising the history of an outstanding campus with new, purposely designed 21st century facilities. Since then, a multi-million pound development project has seen the building of a new Sixth Form Centre, Music School, Sports Grounds and Dining Hall.
Academic results are the best in the area, with 58% of GCSEs being awarded grades 7-9 this year, and 48% of A levels being graded at A/A*. They are improving every year and compete very favourably with other independent schools; expectations are rightly high, and we are ambitious for our children.
Doncaster is a thriving and historic town with excellent communication links, little more than 90 minutes by train from Kings Cross. The culture, facilities and shops of York, Leeds, Harrogate, Nottingham and Sheffield are all within easy reach. Doncaster is surrounded by many beautiful villages in the countryside of South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and North Lincolnshire, and property prices are very reasonable indeed.
The Position
We require someone to inspire a love of Physical Education and Sport, to teach GCSE Sports Studies, and who will demand the highest standards throughout the age range (3 to 18). An ability to coach a main school sport to a good level would be an advantage.
There are currently 7 full time members and 3 part time member of the Department. In addition, a number of other members of staff coach sport and take teams.
The school has a competitive fixture list with both independent and state schools. We are county champions at Hockey at most age groups, and have won national and regional successes at Netball, Swimming, Rugby, Football and Cross Country. In addition to normal Games afternoons, and Games and PE lessons, there is a full programme of sporting activities after school.
