We invite suitably qualified candidates to join our Physical Education department, and take a leading role in the development of competitive and participative sport at our growing and dynamic school in Penang. We are also advertising for a Director of Sport/Head of PE and this appointment will be made in conjunction with that process to ensure the ideal mix of talent and experience at this exciting stage in our evolution. The school’s growth, and expansion of physical health and wellbeing programmes, means more than one post may be available. A subsidiary teaching subject will be expected; the ability to contribute to one of a range of curriculum areas can be accommodated. A significant contribution to the co-curricular sports programme is expected. Experience and capability in aquatics is of particular interest.
The school is committed to a genuinely holistic education, where the benefits of sport, both recreational and competitive, are emphasised as contributors to a healthy and engaged life beyond school. Whilst not all will have particular aptitude or enthusiasm, appropriate challenges met through participation and the support of others are of equal value. Achievement, at all levels, as a result of persistence and determination is actively promoted. We seek a sportsman, or sportswoman, capable to extending the very best, and motivating all, across the spectrum of ability and talent.
PE is currently offered to IGCSE, and we have an active Junior Sports Leaders programme. As the curriculum subject grows in popularity, offering PE at A Level may be possible in due course. The role would suit an experienced teacher or a gifted younger teacher looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will have strong credentials, a high level of personal English language ability, and a clear commitment to the growth and development of young people, both intellectually and physically.
There is a dynamic staff culture at the school with strong professional development programmes, which have a national reputation. There is an emphasis on the appropriate use of IT in a blended and realistic educational environment, achieving the best outcomes with varied approaches. Students have their own devices. Since the foundation of the school in 2011, POWIIS has built a significant reputation in the region and beyond with excellent results; although we have students of a wide range of abilities, they are all equally deserving of the highest quality of teaching to the level of their potential.
A detailed job description will be evolved by negotiation with the successful applicant.
Our school is committed to the highest standards of safeguarding and student welfare, and expects all applicants to share this commitment.
Malaysian work permits are usually granted for two or three years. Contracts are therefore fixed term, but continuity is important for the school; it is hoped that appointments will be seen as longer term, with renewal of contracts common. The staff is predominantly European, who share with high quality Malaysian and other international colleagues, outstanding facilities and resources.
Applicants are encouraged to explore the school’s website: www.powiis.edu.my
The closing date is Saturday 19th January 2019. However, we may extend the appointment process if the role is not filled at that stage. Initial interviews will be via Skype, followed by a face to face meeting if possible for UK based candidates in the week beginning Monday 4th February.
Candidates should apply to the school directly at firstname.lastname@example.org sending:
● completed application form
● brief letter of application
● Curriculum Vitae
Additional supporting documents are NOT required at this stage, and will not be considered. We will acknowledge all applications and keep applicants informed; we enjoy a high level of interest in our vacancies, but your candidacy is very important to us.
We look forward to hearing from you.
