Aberdeen Grammar School is a state secondary school in Aberdeen, Scotland, catering for around 1,000 students in a co-educational setting. Founded as a boys’ independent school in 1257, the school moved to its current location in 1863 and become co-educational in 1973. 

Famously attended by the poet Lord Byron, whose statue stands in the school grounds, Aberdeen Grammar School has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation over the past few years, with the latest additions being a gymnasium and updated rugby fields.

The most recent inspection in 2011 highlighted the following strengths. 

• The high levels of young people’s attainment in S4-S6 in relation to comparator schools.  

• Young people’s high standards of behaviour and positive attitudes to their learning.  

• The commitment of staff to supporting young people’s learning through increased pupil support.  

• The very wide range of sports, clubs and trips available for young people.  

• The strong lead given by the headteacher and extended senior management team to improving the school.
