Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, committed and well-qualified teacher of Physics.

As an academy, we are over-subscribed and consistently achieve some of the highest results in Sandwell. In our most recent Ofsted of February 2020 the school was judged to be good with outstanding features. We are extremely proud of being one of few secondary schools in the country to have been graded as outstanding for behaviour and attitudes under the new Ofsted framework. We have an excellent location being less than 15 miles from the centre of Birmingham whilst having excellent national links via both the M5 and the M6.

As an enthusiastic and committed teacher, you would join a welcoming, highly trained, and very supportive Science department. The department is managed by the Head of Science who is supported by Heads of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The department has also great experience in successfully mentoring both ITT trainees and NQTs.

The Science Department has three main areas for Biology, Chemistry and Physics in different blocks.

Successful candidates will be:

  • Highly motivated and passionate about providing all students with the very best educational opportunities.
  • Believe in the importance of excellent teaching in Science/Physics, and can inspire students
  • Committed to further developing their teaching and professional skills

In return, successful candidates can expect to work with enthusiastic and well-behaved students who have a genuine desire to learn, to work with colleagues who are friendly and supportive, and to be part of a school which values its staff and offers ample opportunities for professional development and advancement. Experienced teachers, NQTs and current ITT trainees are encouraged to apply.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Wood Green Academy is a large 11-19 multicultural comprehensive school set in Wednesbury in the heart of the Black Country. The academy is located about 15km from the centre of Birmingham and has excellent national links by having the M5 and M6 nearby. It is an innovative, creative and forward-thinking school held in high regard locally and nationally. The Academy has a long-standing reputation for achieving some of the best GCSE and Post 16 results in the local area. In our most recent Ofsted of February 2020 the school was judged to be good with outstanding features. We are extremely proud of being one of a small number of secondary schools in the country to have been graded as outstanding for behaviour and attitudes under the new framework.

Proud of belonging to a large and diverse school, our staff are professional, highly dedicated, collaborative, supportive and friendly. We are fully staffed in all areas with subject specialists. Our staffing is extremely stable with a large proportion of our staff having worked at Wood Green Academy for many years. We continually invest in staff development through weekly dedicated Continuing Professional Development (CPD) time, and by offering professional development opportunities and career development. We are also a National Support School and a School Direct Lead School heavily involved with Initial Teacher Training working with local universities and Teach First through post graduate courses.

Our students are enthusiastic, well behaved and keen to learn. They are welcoming, positive and proud of their Academy. They have a good working relationship with staff, which is built on mutual trust, honesty and respect.

The Academy, although always striving to excel and attain the very best in terms of achievement, also strongly believes in the importance of developing the whole child. We seek to give students the very best of opportunities from which they can develop self-confidence, social skills and awareness of the world in which they are valuable citizens. We believe that ‘Success Breeds Success’. For our students, life outside of the classroom is very varied and Wood Green Academy provides the best opportunities as well as they best support.
