Didcot Girls’ School – Committed to Excellence

‘Staff have exceptional opportunities for professional development. Staff feel valued and really like working in the school. Morale is very high.' Ofsted, December 2015

Teacher of Psychology

We seek an inspirational Psychology Teacher, someone who is full of energy and infectious enthusiasm for their subject and who wants to make a real difference to young people’s lives. Didcot Girls’ School was evaluated as Outstanding by Ofsted in December 2015: we are committed to providing an excellent all girls’ education which enables our students to become resilient, confident and articulate future leaders. Our emphasis is on achieving outstanding academic results whilst providing students with a rich curriculum that offers engaging opportunities to apply their learning in context.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high performing and hugely supportive Psychology team in an exciting school. With a strong emphasis on CPD and a culture of collaboration, we offer a supportive and dynamic environment in which to develop and further your career.

GCSE results this summer were superb once more, placing the school in the top 20% of schools nationally for both progress (Progress 8 of +0.34) and attainment. 74% of our Year 11 students achieved a Grade 9 - 4 (equivalent of Grade C) and above in English and Maths. Results at the highest levels are also outstanding across all subjects and 31 students achieved 6 or more grades at A*/A or grade 7-9.

Psychology is a high performing subject and Year 11 students significantly outperformed national averages at both A*-A and A*-C last summer. A Level Psychology was ALPS 2 last summer with 50% of students achieving A*-B grades.

We work in partnership with St Birinus, the boys’ school in Didcot, in our multi-academy trust, the Ridgeway Education Trust, and we share a large mixed sixth form of some 300 students with the boys’ school. Psychology is taught very successfully across both sites and the successful candidate will be able to teach Psychology at KS4 and KS5. Our Teaching School offers exciting opportunities for staff to develop their careers as Specialist Leaders in Education leading school to school support and CPD.

If you share our growth mindset approach to learning and life then we would love to hear from you. Further information is available from the Head of School’s PA, Frances Adley at fadley@didcotgirls.oxon.sch.uk

Didcot Girls’ School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Didcot Girls’ School is a dynamic school. In November 2022, the school was judged to be Outstanding. As Ofsted recognised, we invest in all of our staff:

‘Leaders support staff very well. They have established a collaborative and respectful working environment. With the trust, they provide highly valued training and leadership programmes. Staff are exceptionally proud to work at the school.’

Ofsted also noted the high standards within the school and commented that ‘Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary’.

We are a values-driven school, committed to high quality teaching and learning and respectful relationships within an inclusive learning community. Developing stimulating and student-centred teaching and learning is at the centre of our school development work. We work hard to ensure that all girls’ education enables our students to develop confidence, leadership skills and high levels of aspiration.

Summer 2023 GCSE results were superb with 85% of all students achieving 4+ in English and Maths, and 71% doing the same at 5+.  Results at A level in the mixed sixth form shared with our partner school, St Birinus School, are also extremely strong with 34% of grades awarded as A* or A and 66% achieving Grades A*-B. These results place us as one of the highest performing schools in the county. Didcot Girls’ School is also in the top 3% of state schools in the country based on National Performance Tables data.

Didcot Girls’ School is heavily committed to recognising and maximising the potential of all of its students, and so operated a strong curriculum based around high-quality teaching in core subjects. The school also encouraged students to be outgoing and strong-willed, with a number of opportunities available for them to test their leadership skills, through things such as the School Council and Leadership Ladder. The personal growth of pupils is considered to be a crucial part of their ability to function well in further education or employment when they leave school post-16.
