Job overview

The Governors are seeking to appoint an ambitious, dynamic and well-qualified Teacher of Religious Education from 1st September 2022.  The successful candidate will join a supportive, forward-looking school, which places teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do.  The post would be suitable for experienced teachers and those new to the profession.

The role involves delivery of the curriculum at Key Stage 3 together with the opportunity to assist with the development of the provision at KS4.  If you have the drive, determination and ambition to maximise opportunities for our young people, then we would love to hear from you.

Our school motto ‘Believe and Achieve’ represents our unwavering commitment towards our pupils and staff becoming the very best versions of themselves, achieving their full potential. As a school, we set our standards high and do not compromise.

The opportunity for personal development and progression at Hurstmere is key to our success. An active commitment to staff development through a strong and consistent focus and dialogue around teaching and learning pedagogy makes this an ideal position for candidates committed to being the best practitioner they can be.

Hurstmere School is a popular, non-selective secondary academy for boys aged 11 – 16, serving the local community of Sidcup. It is a special place, with a strong sense of community and a determination to succeed in all that we do.  The school is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all pupils and a “culture of vigilance” to safeguard and protect all in its care.  There are policies and procedures in place, including safer recruitment procedures.  All staff and volunteers are expected to uphold this safeguarding commitment.  Offers of employment are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and other employment checks.

Hurstmere offers a supportive and inclusive environment that celebrates and welcomes diversity.  We expect everyone to have the highest expectations of themselves and of each other. Our pupils are expected to be ready to learn, to work hard and to celebrate their own and each other's achievements. We have staff who are devoted to providing the best education and pastoral care possible, and pupils of whom we are extremely proud; this mix creates a school that is a pleasure to work and learn in.

We are committed to a strong home-school partnership and believe the whole community can contribute to the progress of our pupils as they journey through Hurstmere School, to sixth form, apprenticeships, university, the workplace and beyond.
