Job overview

A vacancy arises from September 2024 for an enthusiastic, experienced and well-qualified practitioner to teach Science to our KS2 and 3 pupils (primarily Years 6 to 8). The role is to work across 3 days but the exact details will be discussed at interview stage. Please state in your covering letter any preferences which we will try to accommodate as best we can. We offer fantastic on-site facilities, small class sizes and well-mannered, motivated children in a beautiful, rural environment.

Candidates should have experience of teaching secondary science, preferably up to GCSE level. An ideal candidate will have experience of teaching all three sciences, managing a department, teaching the ISEB Common Entrance science course and preparing children for academic scholarships to senior schools. All candidates must be fully committed to working at a busy and energetic school, which will include some after-school commitments such as evening clubs and occasionally assisting the boarding team.

In the role you will teach across our KS2 and 3 groups and will be expected to teach all modules from the biology, chemistry and physics curricula. You will manage the department’s resources, including the storage and use of chemicals and be responsible for the completion of departmental administration, including updating schemes of work. You will promote science within the school, including organising trips and activity days and you will assist with STEM initiatives and outreach programmes with neighbouring maintained schools.  All science lessons are taught in the school’s laboratories which are housed in one of our buildings on site.
