Job overview

Anglo European School is seeking a full time enthusiastic and well qualified teacher of Science with a preferred specialism in Biology to join a successful, collaborative and supportive Science Department from September 2022.  This position would be a suitable for an ECT or an experienced teacher looking for a different challenge or environment.

In this department, KS3 students are taught general science. At GCSE, we aim to teach Science according to specialisms but, on occasion, teachers are required to offer beyond their science specialism and having the ability to do this is a distinct advantage.  The role will involve teaching students in the sixth form; support and training will be available to support a suitably qualified candidate to teach both A level and IB courses.

All science staff are encouraged to contribute to the development of the curriculum and are actively involved in developing science pedagogy and practice.  A commitment to STEM education, the extra-curricular programme and enrichment for our students is also highly valued.

The Science Department achieved 9-4 for GCSE Biology – 96%, Chemistry – 96%, Physics – 95% and Combined Science – 84% in summer 2021. ALPS scores ranged from grade 6 to grade 3 for these GCSE subjects.  The sciences are very popular in the Sixth Form with approximately 200 students taking A level and IB Science courses.

The Anglo European School is a comprehensive school with a curriculum informed by internationalist principles, a strong international curriculum, a celebration of diversity and language learning, developing students who demonstrate outstanding personal, social and linguistic development.  All members of staff working at the school support the aims and ethos of the school and participate in the well-established visits and exchanges programme.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We encourage applicants from under-represented backgrounds. Anglo European School is committed to providing equal opportunities for all employees and increasing diversity in education.

Emailed applications forms should be sent to recruitment@aesessex.co.uk

About Anglo European School

Anglo European School is a 11-19, co-educational comprehensive school situated in Ingatestone, Essex. It has approximately 1,415 students.

The school was opened in 1973 after the closure of a secondary modern school led locals to campaign to keep the school open and the Local Authority, Essex, decided to establish a school with a “European Dimension”.

Anglo European School serves local needs but also draw students from across Essex and parts of London. In 1977 it became the first UK state school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and in 1995 the first comprehensive school to become a specialist Language college. In 2005 the school established the first co-headship model in a state secondary school.

As a centre of excellence for language learning, the school offers Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish as well as English as an Additional Language and Latin.  Up until age 16 all students study two languages other than English.

In the sixth form, students must study one language. They have a choice of A-levels or an opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma. There is also the chance to study selected parts of the IB Diploma with A-levels. In addition, the International Baccalaureate Career Programme provides an internationally recognised vocational qualification.
