Our Mission Statement
We seek to fulfil the needs of all our students in a caring, happy, pleasant and stimulating environment enabling them to achieve their potential as lifelong learned citizens.
To achieve this we will:
• Work with our partners to provide a challenging, relevant and flexible curriculum, meeting the needs of all our
students irrespective of gender, ability, race, religion and culture.
• Empower everyone to have high expectations and encourage high level performance.
• Promote their development socially, morally, culturally and spiritually.
• Prepare our children for a responsible adult life in terms of work, family, life, leisure, health and citizenship.
• Encourage tolerant, caring attitudes within our School and the outside community.
• Maintain a happy and purposeful working environment.
• Develop self-disciplined understanding of the way rules help our community to function.
Bebington High Sports College is an 11-18 co-educational, all ability High School. It is situated in the Bebington area of Wirral; this is a selective area, which contains 2 single-sex Grammar Schools, 1 Catholic 11-18 all ability school and 1 further all ability High School. We also border the Birkenhead area containing an 11-16 all ability girl’s school and an all girl’s Academy.
Bebington ward, which has a census profile similar to the national average, provides about a third of our student intake (RAISE). We do, however, take students from an increasingly wide area of the Wirral (average distance to school has increased slightly from 1.16 to 1.25 miles from Years 7-11) and we have an increasing percentage of students coming from more deprived areas. Our average IDACI score rises from 0.25 in Year 11 to 0.34 in Year 7 (which would be indicative of schools with the 20% highest IDACI scores). In the Sixth Form this figure drops to 0.21 showing that on average our students from more deprived areas are less likely to remain in post-16 education (school analysis).
The parental preference system results in students being drawn from around 30 feeder primary schools. Our first choice preferences have shown a significant increase in the last 2 years: 2004 – 60, 2005 – 90, 2006 – 107 and 2007 – 105. This is a result of increasing parental confidence in the school especially at a time of falling roles.
The disproportionate provision in Wirral for girls means that we have significantly more boys than girls in our school. Overall we have 63% boys and this picture is similar in most years (except Year 10 that has only 55% boys) with an extreme of 69% in Year 9 and 68% in Year 7.
We are designated as an all ability school, however, the attainment on entry (average point score) is below the national average (RAISE) due to the impact of selection, a local independent school who admit 9% of all Wirral students and a local girls 11-16 comprehensive school and Academy (no equivalent boys comprehensive).
Bebington High School vision is to ensure that we have happy, successful students educated in a pleasant environment. We believe we have achieved this aim as our students achieve well in a school that provides excellent facilities.
The staff have high expectations of our students, which include the highest standards of dress, work ethic, punctuality, attendance and behaviour. We encourage our students to be proud and responsible members of our community. We provide the highest standards of education, first class facilities, excellent pastoral care, strong discipline, open and friendly relationships and good communication.
