About Benjamin Britten Music Academy

The school is founded in honour of Lowestoft’s own Benjamin Britten. We are part of the Hartismere Family of Schools, judged Outstanding by Ofsted, and are sponsored by the Britten Pears Foundation.

Following a complete refurbishment, the school now benefits from outstanding specialist facilities, including a Dance Studio, Theatre, Art Studios with Art Gardens, modern Science Laboratories, Computing Suites, and refurbished dining areas. We are also home to Suffolk’s Centre of Excellence in Mathematics, providing high-quality support and resources to raise standards across the region.

Music remains central to our ethos, with scholarships and a breadth of opportunities more commonly associated with independent education. Alongside this, we provide an extensive extra-curricular programme, including successful sports teams and high-quality dramatic and musical productions. This is complemented by a strong Personal Development provision, graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

At our core is a commitment to exceptional teaching and curriculum design. Lessons are built on high expectations, expert subject knowledge, and carefully sequenced learning to ensure all pupils achieve ambitious outcomes.

We are proud of our strong community links and charitable work, and we seek talented professionals who share our ambition to develop sharp minds and generous hearts.
