Darrick Wood require, from September 2018, a well-qualified and ambitious part-time Teacher of Science. You will be working in a forward looking and supportive faculty with successful and committed staff.
There are twelve modern laboratories, most of which have been newly refurbished, to provide an efficient and pleasant working environment. All Chemistry laboratories have a fume cupboard and all laboratories are connected to the school’s computer network. All laboratories are fitted with Hitachi Interactive Whiteboards.
There are seventeen science teachers and three technicians with one assistant technician under the direction of three Heads of Department. The Head of Chemistry is also Head of Faculty.
Although there are discrete Biology, Chemistry and Physics departments, the communal office and staff room ensure that there is a free exchange of ideas. This arrangement has done much to foster the hardworking, mutually supportive and friendly atmosphere that characterises the Faculty.
Darrick Wood is an oversubscribed and successful 11-18 eight form entry mixed comprehensive, housed in modern buildings on an attractive site in a pleasant catchment area. The School consistently achieves excellent results, was judged to be ‘outstanding’ in its last OFSTED inspection, and was designated a Teaching School in 2013. In 2015 we were proud to be awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark. The School provides very good opportunities for career development and a full support programme for all new staff.

About Darrick Wood School
Darrick Wood School is a mainstream, co-educational, non-denominational secondary academy for 1700 children aged 11-18. It is situated in Orpington, Kent. In its most recent inspection by Ofsted (January 2019) the School was judged as “Good” in all areas.
The school was founded in 1975. In June 2004, it was awarded specialist status in technology. In 2010, Darrick Wood converted to academy status and a new Sixth-Form building was completed.
In 2015, the secondary school was awarded the World Class Schools quality mark.
