Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College is a vibrant comprehensive, co-educational school for 11-16 year olds determined to do our very best for the families in our community. It is an exciting time to join Broadoak as our journey towards being brilliant is well underway.
With decisive leadership, a great team, comprehensive plans to maximise all students’ abilities and a moral commitment to work tirelessly for all the young people in our care, students remain front and centre in all that we do.
The college is very popular with excellent community links and excellent extra-curricular provision.
The Modern Foreign Languages Faculty:
The MFL Department is based in one wing of the school with 3 dedicated Languages rooms and the MFL office. In each of the classrooms there is an interactive whiteboard and data projector. Each member of the Department has the use of a laptop, which links automatically to the college’s ICT network. There are 4 full sized computer suites in the College, (30 computers each), which can also be booked.
All Year 7, 8 and 9 students are taught French or Spanish in mixed performance groups and in Year 9 choose their preferred subjects for the start of GCSE courses in Year 10. Careful differentiation of work and of approach (personalisation) allows all pupils to be happy, successful learners in their initial years.
At Key Stage 3 the students follow the national framework, with resources created by teachers being used, along with TaskMagic, Linguascope, Kahoot and a range of other language learning websites.
At Key Stage 4 students follow the AQA GCSE specification, using the Oxford AQA GCSE textbook and other teacher-made resources.
