General Duties

Responsibility to carry out the list of duties contained in Part 2, Section 2 of the National Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teachers and Associated Professionals.

To ensure the provision of quality education and appropriate support to identified pupils.

To provide support, guidance and training to staff in order to develop effective working practice with pupils presenting with social and communication needs, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Teaching Duties

To support pupils with social and communication needs through:

Assessment of pupils’ needs in regards to social and communication difficulties

Planning, recording and reporting on pupils’ progress in collaboration with school staff

Cooperative/collaborative teaching

Individual pupil support/small group pupil support

Curricular Duties

Contribute to all aspects of individualised educational programmes for identified pupil(s)

Advise on teaching styles and approaches appropriate to pupils with social and communication difficulties

Develop and differentiate resources

Assess the appropriateness of the curriculum for the individual pupil(s)

Advise on the strategies and resources to support pupils with social and communication difficulties
