Position Information 

Ballina Coast High School is a newly established school purposefully built to deliver a new pedagogy to students 7-12. The school has 960 students, 18% Aboriginal students. The Support Unit has seven classes (2 IM classes, 2 MC classes, 1 IO/AU Class and 2 IO/AU classes.); these classes cater for students with a range of disabilities including: mild, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, autism, mental health and behavioural difficulties. Ballina Coast High School has redesigned the curriculum for 7-10 aligned with OECD Research and the tenets of innovation, excellence and diversity. The curriculum is personalised, integrated and collaborative and builds the capabilities of all students. The school is committed to collaboration and conversations that focus on student and staff growth.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 
  • Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with a variety of disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder, mild, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities and students with emotional disturbances and challenging behavioural needs.
  • Quality classroom practice and highly developed skills which enhance student engagement through differentiated and individualised learning programs.  
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, school learning support officers and external support agencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of all life skills curriculum areas with a specific focus on developing skills to enhance post school opportunities for students with disabilities.
  • Capacity and commitment to work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal students with disabilities.
  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
