Teaching ServiceCarenne School is a K-12 School for Specific Purposes (SSP) with an enrolment of 116 students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional disturbance and other additional learning needs across 17 classes. Of the 116 students enrolled, 24% identify as Aboriginal. The school has a very strong sense of community and is well supported by active parents and community members. The school includes the Macquarie Tutorial Centre which provides specialist targeted behaviour support to primary and secondary students from local schools with one behaviour class and two permanent support class for students with Emotional Disturbance. Our highly professional, cohesive staff is committed to professional learning, collaborative planning and team work. - Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with moderate intellectual disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and behaviour difficulties.
- Evidence of effective differentiation of curriculum with the ability to deliver high quality literacy and numeracy programs to meet the needs of all students.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate with colleagues and build positive relationships with students, parents and the wider community.
- Demonstrated ability to embed alternative communication tools and strategies into classroom practices to support student learning and engagement.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies and demonstrated understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students.
