Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and innovative teacher with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to achieving high standards who can teach a range of subjects, primarily English (roughly 50%).

The successful candidate will have a strong academic background, be an excellent classroom practitioner who is capable of inspiring and motivating students and have experience of working with children with special educational needs (please note this does not need to be within a special school setting). We welcome applications from Early Careers teachers.

The majority of our students are working at a KS1 and KS2 level with a small number studying GCSEs in English, Maths and Art.

Working in a special school is extremely rewarding and our students continue to amaze us on a daily basis with their attitudes, achievements and behaviour. We welcome you to come and meet us and see our fantastic students and staff in action prior to placing your application.

The Abbey is part of WMAT, a dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative Trust. We are currently seven schools – three special schools and four secondaries within the Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere area.

We were graded Outstanding by OFSTED in 2009, 2012, 2016 and December 2022.

This is a really exciting time for The Abbey as we watch the transformation of our school allowing us to expand and flourish in our new buildings with their first-class technology.

About The Abbey School

The Abbey School is a strong and vibrant special school with places for just over 130 students aged 11-16 years who have learning difficulties and additional needs. Working in a special school is extremely rewarding, and our students continue to amaze us on a daily basis with their attitudes, achievements and behaviour. 

We converted to Academy status on 1st September 2018 and are part of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT), a dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative Trust. We are currently seven schools – three special schools and four secondaries within the Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere areas. 

There are regular opportunities for collaborative working, CPD and the sharing of expertise between staff across the schools. There are also opportunities for staff to join a range of WMAT working groups to further their own continuing professional development.

It is a very exciting time to join our team as we move towards the next stage of our development within WMAT.
