Our schools: Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) has grown to become Australia's largest national educational program for children on the autism spectrum, with 9 independent schools operating from 67 locations in NSW and South Australia catering approximately 1,200 students, with more than 100 classes hosted on the grounds of a less specialised school. 

What you will do: Aspect Western Sydney school is looking for passionate, full time and part time teachers to join our incredible teaching team. You will be located at Wetherill Park or one of our five secondary satellite host schools. We are looking for an individual who enjoys working collaboratively, has a strong ability to differentiate and cater for the individual’s strengths and interests.  We are committed to growing and developing our staff in a supportive environment.  Implementing our evidence-informed autism-specific approach - the Aspect Comprehensive Approach [ACA], you’ll teach students the skills to be the very best they can be. You will collaborate with students, family, Teacher’s Aide and other therapy professionals to develop and implement Individual Plans. In your small class with it's own teacher’s aide, you can tailor the learning environment to the needs of your students on the autism spectrum. About the School: Aspect Western Sydney School was established in 1984, and offers a safe, supportive learning environment for students on the autism spectrum. Our school caters for close to 160 students across the Greater Western regions of Sydney. Our school has a main school site at Wetherill Park which consists of six primary classes and the administration base, as well as eight primary satellite classes and five high school classes which are Aspect run but operated within NSW Department of Education and Catholic Schools.


What we are looking for:

  • NESA registration to teach in NSW
  • Special Education qualification/s are preferred
  • Secondary teaching qualification highly desirable
  • Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or an intellectual disability preferred
  • NSW Working With Children Check clearance for paid employment

What we offer: Full time base salary of $78k - $114k (depending on qualifications, accreditation and relevant teaching experience) + allowances + superannuation. The school caters to approximately 160 students across the Western and South-Western regions of Sydney. The administrative base is located in Wetherill Park where eight classes comprising of infants, primary and high school students are educated.

ASPECT Western Sydney continues to invest in upgrading its technology facilities, and as a result, students now can utilise smartboards, desktop computers and wireless internet connect ability to enhance and promote their learning opportunities. Students also have access to a combination of green and hard outdoor spaces, undercover social areas and fixed play equipment. Additionally, they have access to the local parkland reserve for other physical and recreational programs.

Curriculum

The school's core curriculum focuses on communication, social skills, behaviour and sensory needs. Every student has their own Individual Education Plan (IEP) that works in line with the NSW Board of Studies key learning areas of English, Maths, Science, History, Creative and Practical Arts and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education. There is also a range of social clubs and recreational activities that students can get involved in such as bowling, laser tag, rock climbing and mini golf. These events take place out of school hours.

The primary focus of ASPECT Western Sydney is to equip students with the skills to become as independent as possible and enable them to transition successfully from school life to beyond.
