About Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Roehampton

Applications are invited from qualified teachers who wish to work in this Catholic primary school.

The school comprises old and new buildings, standing in its own playing fields and very close to both Richmond Park and Putney Heath.  It is within easy reach of Barnes Station (B.R.) and bus routes from both Hammersmith and Putney.

Sacred Heart School is an exciting and innovative school.  For example, we have adopted the International Primary Curriculum.  We are a hub school for the R.H.S. and are developing our extensive grounds for increased opportunities for outdoor learning.

There are at present 330 children in the school who come from the surrounding area, composed of both private and council estates.  They are grouped in 11 classes - five at Key Stage 1, five at Key Stage 2 and a Nursery class. In addition to the eleven class teachers we have three non-class based teachers: a SENCO, an EMA teacher and the ICT Co-ordinator/Numbers Count teacher.  All teachers have an area of curriculum responsibility.

Most children transfer to Catholic secondary schools, including London Oratory;
Gumley House, Isleworth;   Holy Cross, New Malden;  Richard Challoner, New Malden;
John Paul II, Wimbledon Parkside; Wimbledon College;  Ursuline Convent, Wimbledon.

The pupils live mainly in the parish of St. Joseph’s, Roehampton, and the school has strong links with the parish and its priest.

There is an active “Friends” association and the staff of the school are also fortunate in having both parents and governors who work on a voluntary basis within the school.

The school also has strong links with the local colleges and universities, especially Roehampton University which is situated directly opposite the school.  These links include the use of the College chapel, as well as both lecturers and their students working with classes of children.

The aims of the school are to provide all children with the opportunities to grow academically and socially, physically and emotionally, creatively and spiritually.  Every member of the school community has a vital part to play in contributing towards the Catholic Christian environment within the school.
