Smallwood Primary School is an expanding school, with a Language Resource Base and Children’s Centre, conveniently situated close to Earlsfield mainline station and Tooting Broadway underground. We are a rapidly improving school and need enthusiastic and committed teachers/support staff to continue our forward momentum. Our most recent OFSTED inspection (2014) describes us as ‘a good school with outstanding leadership’.

We are passionate about the education of our children, continuous professional development of all staff and a strong partnership with parents and the wider community.

Additionally the school has a provision for pupils with communication and language disorders including Autism. The language unit now has a maximum of 40 children with a range of Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties. It is important to us that all adults contribute to the growth and development of every child and support their individual needs.  Therefore we are looking to expand our highly motivated and enthusiastic team of support staff.

This role requires initiative and flexibility as well as a commitment to supporting complex children to reach their full potential. Our children do use alternative communication systems, such as Makaton signing and PECS. Skill in the use of these systems would be desirable. Experience of working in an early years setting is essential. You will work under the direction of the class teacher and will be expected to support individuals and small groups of children. A minimum of G.C.S.E. grade C or above in English and Maths and NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or relevant extensive experience is required.

Ideal candidates will be positive and enthusiastic in their approach and will seek to provide the opportunity for the children they are working with to achieve their full potential, both academically and socially.  You will work not only with the class teacher, but with other Language Unit professionals, including, Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists on a daily basis.
