Job overview

Birkbeck Primary School is a friendly, oversubscribed two form entry school with a Nursery. Our most recent Ofsted inspection in February 2018 judged us as a school that continues to be good.

We are looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support a pupil on a 1:2:1 basis with complex needs. This post is linked to the pupil’s individual EHC Plan and is therefore offered on a temporary contract in the first instance.

We are looking for an individual who demonstrates an energetic and resilient nature and enjoys working with children. The successful candidate must have a good standard of English and Maths, be able to communicate effectively with adults and children, and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and willingness to participate in training. Experience of work with children with more complex needs is essential.

All applications should be e-mailed to our School Business Manager, Veronica Jarvis (sbm@birkbeck.bexley.sch.uk) or posted directly to the school for the attention of Mrs L Fisher-Pink, Head Teacher.

References will be requested for those short listed ONLY and prior to interview. Only those short listed for interview will be contacted.

Birkbeck School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Offers of employment are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure and other employment checks.

Closing Date for Applications: Wednesday 18th April 2018 at 12:00 noon
Interview Dates: Week Commencing Monday 23rd April 2018

The school is committed to equality and diversity in employment practice and service delivery. This post is considered to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The school  therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the person specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages.
