About the School

Medway Green School are looking for Teaching Assistants to help start up and grow the new, independent special educational needs provision in Wouldham, Kent. The school will facilitate for up to 46 pupils aged 5-14 with a wide range of behavioural, social and emotional needs. The school site is currently going through significant refurbishment and comprises of two buildings – an 1870 traditional red brick Victorian school house and a modern classroom block. The site also extends onto 4 acres of surrounding land including adjacent playing fields.

About the role

Working as a Teaching Assistant at Medway Green School you will enhance the learning environment for our pupils, supporting our teachers to promote personal development and well-being for all.  You will help setup the classrooms, lead on small parts of lessons, keep accurate records to track pupil progress and contribute to lesson planning.  It is essential that you are aware of pupil progress and able to flag potential concerns.  Safeguarding the welfare of the young people in our care will be your primary responsibility.  Any experience of teaching would be an advantage but not essential.   


Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual with high expectations and standards who can offer excellent behavioural management skills.  You will be working with young people who have complex needs and your ability to develop trusting relationships with the young people and staff will be crucial.  You will be able to reliably work to instruction as well as take the initiative when circumstances demand.  An interest in teaching and a desire to improve these students’ lives is essential. 

The ability to contribute to the development of our school is essential and we believe that energy, passion and a commitment to high standards are key characteristics required.  We are looking for a special individual who is able to help inspire and re-engage the young people that we serve.  This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their skills and experience in a challenging, motivating and highly rewarding environment. 

Salary is £18,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.  This salary is actual and is not pro rata.  Staff are only required to work during term time, but are paid a full year salary. 


The positions are due to commence later this year (subject to approved reference/DBS checks).

Medway Green is a school for children aged between 5 and 14 who have a range of special educational needs.

Located in the village of Wouldham in Kent, our site has recently benefited from significant development, with our traditional Victorian school house and modern classroom block having been refurbished to the highest specifications.
