Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a full-time Teaching Assistant on a two-year fixed-term contract (term-time only) to support a visually impaired pupil with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in the sixth form.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the pupil is able to access all visual material in lessons – therefore, a keen eye for detail and strong ICT skills are essential. You will also be required to liaise with key staff in the school to ensure that all events and activities will be easily accessible.

The successful candidate will have some experience of supporting pupils in a secondary classroom setting, but experience of supporting visual impairments is not essential, as full training will be provided.

The successful candidate will be joining a close-knit department that provides learning support to pupils across the junior and senior schools. You should be enthusiastic, adaptable and willing to provide occasional assistance in other areas of the school where appropriate.

King's is an extremely sought-after school with outstanding academic results and a vibrant co-curriculum. It strives to appoint able, committed and compassionate colleagues to help ensure every child at the school achieves their best. Overlooking Wimbledon Common, the school is situated in one of the most attractive parts of south east England and benefits from exceptional grounds and facilities.

In return, we offer a competitive salary plus excellent benefits, including a contributory pension scheme, health benefits, discounted membership to King’s sports club, and lunch during term time.

Further details can be found at: www.kcs.org.uk

Closing date: 9am on Wednesday 6th July 2022

Interview date: Friday 8th July 2022

King’s is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Any offer of employment will be subject to the receipt of an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and medical clearance. At King’s, we embrace inclusion and fairness in the workplace: diversity is to be celebrated, and, as such, we strive towards a fully immersive culture of inclusion, diversity and equality.

Values and vision

Our school was founded in 1829 by Royal Charter as the junior department of the university, King’s College London, and as such, intellectual aspiration and a progressive spirit are our heritage.

Today, we offer an education of the whole person, in Mind, Spirit and Heart, the enduring ethos of our foundation. Our guiding mission is to look outwards, to the world beyond school, and to life at 25: we look to the lives we are preparing our young people to lead, so that when the time comes, they are ready to forge the pathway they choose, and to make a purposeful impact.

We aim for each of our pupils to enjoy an exhilarating adventure of learning and to pursue academic excellence within a fun, caring, welcoming environment. Academic outcomes at A level, IB and GCSE consistently place King’s amongst the very top schools nationally and globally.  Supporting our pupils to grow strong in spirit, in the shared values and qualities of character that will ground them, is equally important.
