The Shires is a small school with big ideas and aspirations. The curriculum is wide and varied and prepares youngsters for their life when they leave The Shires. Staff are TEACCH trained and the students respond very positively to the high expectations, clear boundaries and explicit routines.

We are looking to recruit a new teaching assistant to join our team:

Ideal candidates will have obtained an NVQ 2 qualification in Teaching and Learning or equivalent and be prepared to register for a relevant Level 3 qualification. In additional ideal candidates would ideally have experience within a similar school setting together with experience of working with children with challenging behaviour and autism. Experience of working as a TA in a mainstream setting would also be valuable.

The hours are Monday to Friday commencing at 08.30 until 17.30 over 39.2 weeks of the year. 

The ideal candidate would be willing to lead specific lessons during the week to small class groups and to support learning in the classroom on a day to day basis.

A full driving license to drive students in our people carrier and a willingness to participate in all activities including swimming are essential.
