The Unity Schools Partnership, consisting of primary and secondary schools, is a vibrant and inspiring place to work and learn, striving to secure excellence in all aspects of its work.

The Governing Body is seeking to recruit a highly flexible, self-motivated and reliable Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated and friendly team within the SEND department. There will be opportunities to progress in your career as you develop your expertise in a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Ideally, you will have experience of working with students within a classroom setting, although it is not essential for you to have worked specifically with students with special educational needs and disabilities. The role may vary according to the needs of our students throughout the year and may involve supporting them in classes, small groups or on a one-to-one basis. The successful candidate will also be required to provide an element of administrative support for the SEND department as part of the role; therefore, good ICT skills and previous experience in an administration position are desirable.

You will:

  • Possess good English and maths skills (GCSE C or equivalent),
  • Be determined to make a positive contribution towards the learning experience of our students
  • Have high expectations of all our students as well as a commitment to raising standards and promoting progress
  • Be flexible and open to change in order to meet the needs of our students, the needs of the SEND department and those of the Academy
  • Be pro-active, and willing to use your own initiative, as appropriate
  • Possess good interpersonal, organisational, communication and administrative skills
  • Take a professional approach in your dealings with students, staff, parents/carers and external agencies
  • Have the ability to remain calm and confident when under pressure
  • Be a team-player, open to advice, feedback and guidance from colleagues
  • Be able to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Have an interest in special needs and education and be willing to undertake further professional training and development

In return we will offer:

  • Support any CPD required to be able to fulfil the role
  • Newly refurbished learning spaces with state of the art interactive white boards and sound systems.
  • A supportive and friendly working environment with well established “well-being” programmes.
  • An excellent programme of induction into the Academy with supportive and dynamic staff.
  • Well-being day each Academic year.

Prospective candidates are invited to visit the Academy and meet the team. Please contact Claire Bailey, PA to the Principal, on 01638 664412 or email claire.bailey@newmarketacademy.co.uk to make an appointment.

Applications should be made on-line via the Academy website.

Closing Date: Monday 6th June 2022, 9.00am

Interviews: Friday 10th June 2022

Located in the market town of Newmarket, Suffolk, Newmarket Academy is a co-educational secondary academy. The school has around 800 pupils aged 11-16, formerly known as Newmarket College, the school adopted its current name following its conversion to an academy in 2014, having previously moved from being a 13-19 school in 2012. Newmarket Academy is now part of Unity Schools Partnership, a multi-academy group responsible for the running of a number of secondary, special and primary schools.

Principal

Mr Martin Witter

Our Vision

Our vision is that Newmarket Academy will be an excellent school.  We strive to be the best we can be in all areas.  We aim to be the school of choice, serving the local area, and an excellent school in the Unity Schools Partnership.

Ofsted

“Students feel safe and they get on well with each other and the staff. n Students are polite and helpful to visitors. The change of status from a 13 to 19 college to an 11 to 19 college was well planned and carried out. A wide range of activities outside lessons, including assemblies, contributes well to students’ personal development.”
