Job overview

About the role: High Halstow Primary Academy has a fantastic opportunity to appoint a Teaching Assistant who will provide impactful support for pupils, both on a 1:1 or small group basis, who need extra support in the classroom, based predominantly in our Year 6 class.  This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in our pupils' development. You will be working in the classroom and implementing programmes of support designed specifically to meet the pupils’ needs. The role offers the chance for a motivated and nurturing individual who has experience in working with primary-aged children, who aspires to grow and develop as an outstanding Teaching Assistant within our Trust.

We are ambitious for all of our pupils and believe that a Teaching Assistant working with our talented teaching staff will enhance pupil’s learning experience.  Our support staff ensure that they are well prepared and continuously develop themselves for the benefit of our pupils.  We are unrelenting and graciously uncompromising.

Ideally, you will already hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Teaching and Learning and will share our vision to support pupils to make better than expected progress in their learning as a result of your support of their learning.  You will have solid experience working in upper Key Stage 2, or even experience working within a secondary setting as you will have a wealth of transferable skills to suit this role in Year 6.

The working basis of this role is Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 2.15pm.

Working with our academy: High Halstow Primary Academy is a one form entry village primary school with just over 200 pupils. It is ideally situated on the Hoo Peninsula with fantastic views and quiet surroundings as well as close links to the M2 and Medway Tunnel.  This provides excellent opportunities for staff to work collaboratively with colleagues in other schools as well as high-quality professional development.

Being a part of Leigh Academies Trust:  As of September 2019, our Trust is comprised of 25 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 13 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff.  We also have three further academies in development phase, due to open between September 2020-2021.  The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust, you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation. We strive to offer a range of benefits that all employees can take advantage of which we regularly review and add to - click here to view what you’d receive as a member of staff with Leigh Academies Trust.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise. We require all staff within the Trust to complete an enhanced DBS check as part of our on-boarding process in order to safeguard our students.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

The school merged with Leigh Academies Trust in January 2019 which provides outstanding opportunities for staff to work collaboratively as well as high-quality professional development.

The academy is fortunate to have fantastic indoor and outdoor environments where staff have vast opportunities to engage the pupils in their learning. Last summer, the wooden trim trail, fire pit area and outdoor classroom were added. The library has also recently been invested in to make it an inviting place to read for pleasure.
