Job overview

We are seeking exceptional individuals to join our team at Mayfield School in Torquay which provides support to children at Key Stage 1 to 4 with SLD/PMLD special educational needs.

The posts we have available are:



2x Full time, permanent posts 

  • 5 days per week, Monday - Friday,  30 hours a week for 39 weeks per year (term time only). The starting salary (actual) is £12,888 per annum.


1 x Part time, permanent post      

  • 4 days per week, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,  24 hours a week for 39 weeks per year (term time only). The starting salary (actual) is £10,310 per annum.




1x Part time, permanent post    

  • 3 days per week, Monday-Wednesday, 18 hours a week for 39 weeks per year (term time only).  The starting salary (actual) is £7,733


2 x Part time, permanent posts     

  • 2 days per week, Thursday and Friday, 12 hours a week for 39 weeks per year (term time only). The starting salary (actual) is £5,155.   
  • 2 days per week, Monday and Tuesday, 12 hours a week for 39 weeks per year (term time only).  The starting salary (actual) is £5,155.


4 x Part time, permanent posts     

  • Fridays only, 6 hours a week for 39 weeks per year (term time only). The starting salary (actual) is £2,578.




We are looking for candidates who are keen, motivated and are able to work as part of a team. Successful applicants will preferably have experience of working in a school setting. Knowledge of Special Educational Needs and or working with pupils with profound and severe learning difficulties is desirable but not essential as further training is available.

The successful applicants will have proven experience of working with children with challenging and vulnerable behaviours and will be able to demonstrate commitment and expertise in improving educational and social outcomes for them. Knowledge of the primary curriculum and experience of supporting children with a range of interventions in literacy and numeracy is essential.  Knowledge of Thrive would be a distinct advantage.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. These posts are subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and barred list check and other Safeguarding and Medical Checks. The interview will be a panel interview along with a written task and may include other tasks on the day.

All candidates will be required to provide two references which will be taken up if shortlisted but before interview.
