Job overview

We are St Catherine's College - preparing students to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers, locally, nationally and globally.  At St Catherine's College people matter, results count and we have a passion for excellence.

We have recently appointed to the post of Subject Leader Computer Science with effect from April 2020.  We however need a temporary Teacher of Computer Science for a fixed term period from 6 January to 3 April 2020.  This is a great opportunity for a Teacher who doesn't want to commit to a long term role or who has recently relocated to the area.

We are proud of our College, our talented and highly motivated staff and students.  Our staff team work tirelessly to ensure that teaching is the best it can be and everyone has a role to play in this.  We support each other and there is an open, friendly and collegiate atmosphere where new members of the team are welcomed and supported.

We are an Investors in People Award School, which means that we invest heavily and value the development of all our staff.

We are an inclusive Church of England School with the benefit of links with The Diocese of Chichester and the opportunity to promote strong lasting values based on the Christian faith.

The successful applicant will be a successful classroom practitioner who will be responsible for delivering Computer Science to the next generation of programmers, network engineers and pupils with an absolute passion for computers.

You should be an inspirational, dynamic and enthusiastic qualified teacher with strong subject knowledge and the ability to demonstrate skills such as coding, digital creation and working with emerging technologies.

We teach OCR Computer Science at St Catherine's College at KS4.  In addition to this we currently have a cohort of Year 11's taking the Cambridge National Qualification, this will change to BTec with effect from September 2020.  Computer Science teaching takes place across four purpose built Computer Science classrooms, recognising the mix of theory and practical that a Science subject covers.  The teaching programming language currently being studied is Python and familiarity with that would be beneficial.

We offer you:

Excellent career development opportunities

A friendly, supportive and caring staff team

CPD, starts immediately upon employment

Teachers' Pension Scheme

Free flu vaccine

A fabulous staff room with complimentary tea and coffee

Free parking

A cafe that serves at breakfast, break and lunch using freshly sourced ingredients

A geographical location, being situated near Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne's award winning Marina.  It is part of several miles of beautiful coastline, including the South Downs National Park, the white cliffs of Beachy Head and 1066 country.

Completed applications forms and letters of application should be sent directly to the college addressed to Mrs S Windsor, Head of Personnel, SWindsor@stcatherines.college.  There is no closing date for this post.  Applications will be considered as they arrive, and the College reserves the right to make an appointment at any point.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, successful applicants will need to undertake a DBS enhanced clearance.

We are St Catherine's College. We are a Church of England Academy that has children at the heart of everything we do.

Our smart, well behaved pupils are happy and proud of their school. We are a high achieving school with children who are well prepared for their next steps in life.

We are fixed upon progress for all. Pupils benefit from smaller classes in English and Maths, as well as additional support when they need an extra boost to accelerate their progress. We are blessed with excellent teachers who are happy and stay here. The teachers, the tutors and our expansive pastoral team work with each child to help find their 'missing piece' so that they can reach their God-given potential.

We are different, and what sets us apart is that we are the only Church of England Secondary School / Academy in East Sussex. Parents send their children here because we insist upon high standards and firm boundaries, all underpinned by our Christian foundation.

We are a college that teaches and explores the value of resilience. This resilience is in part why our students are more likely to stay on and succeed in further education than their peers nationally.

We are creative and maintain a broad and varied curriculum with Art, Dance, Drama, Music, Food Technology and Motor Vehicle all featuring in our curriculum as we recognise the value of developing the whole child experience. Beyond a rich mix of Sport, Drama, Dance and Music, we also offer chess, gaming, our Mandarin Academy, host the Pauline Quirk Academy and offer so much more...

We are St Catherine's and it is our mission that every child achieves his/her God-given potential. We aim for every student to rise to challenges, to enjoy learning and to feel a sense of belonging.
