Job overview

Part-time (3 days per week) 6 - 9 month contract

You are a specialist in multi-academy trust development with a passion for unlocking children’s potential. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant difference in a fast paced, high profile field of education, at a time of significant growth and change.

At the Department for Education, we have a vision to provide world-class education and care for every child and young person. Today, there are over 6,000 open academies, free schools, studio schools and University Technical Colleges. Their numbers are increasing rapidly. We will look to you to work alongside our Regional Schools Commissioner for East Midlands and the Humber - an area which spans 17 local authorities and more than 1,000 open academies.

Sharing your expert knowledge of trust development with the Commissioner’s team, you will help them to become better partners to trusts across our region. We will look to you to provide both advice and training, and to help shape and share a range of best practice tools for trusts. You will support the team with the further development of strategies for diverse areas - from supporting trusts to grow, consolidate and collaborate, through to improving governance and leadership, and helping to prevent failure by using early warning indicators. The development of networks for sharing best practice and building alliances will also be a key focus of your role.

To be equal to the challenge, you will need a relevant track record. You may join us from any area of the education system, but you must be highly skilled in developing and implementing a successful growth strategy within a high performing trust. We expect you to demonstrate experience of reviewing strategies and improving governance, leadership, people development, school improvement and financial planning. With a proven flair for bringing people together and facilitating the sharing of best practice, you will relish this opportunity to work with and encourage collaboration between schools, academy trusts, local authorities and key stakeholders.
