About Our School

Canadian International School (CIS) is a leading international school located in Singapore. Founded in 1990, we currently have over 3,000 students from more than 70 nationalities enrolled across our two campuses - Lakeside in the west (for students aged 2 to 18 years) and Tanjong Katong in the east (for students aged 2 to 12 years).

About the Position

The University Advisor plays an essential role in ensuring all students are on track to enroll and succeed in college or university.

The University Advisor guides and monitors student progress to and through graduation, assists students and families in consideration of the extensive range of choices available both nationally and internationally, and prepares and positions students for the processes and procedures that will make them successful applicants.

Key Responsibilities

Post-Secondary Applications

  • arrange university representative visits to CIS
  • attend university fairs to establish contact with institutions and promote the reputation of CIS
  • assist students with post-secondary explorations/questions, provide reference letters
  • assist students with required testing for post-secondary study (TOEFL, SAT, IELTS, ACT)
  • assist students with the application process for post-secondary institutions
  • track and report students’ applications and acceptances to post-secondary institutions
  • meet individually with all grade 11 and 12 students and their families regarding post-secondary plans
  • complete online university applications through OUAC, UCAS, Common App, etc.

Guidance

  • regular liaison with departmental colleagues to communicate / share / discuss student issues
  • assist grade 9-12 students with academic concerns
  • present to students and parents regarding post-secondary planning
  • liaise / communicate with teachers, social / emotional counsellors, parents, and administration on academic / learning concerns
  • attend meetings and seminars for professional development
  • participate in end-of-semester promotion meetings as required
  • in collaboration with the vice-principal, grade 10 learning lead and IBDP Coordinator hold individual meetings with all grade 10 students (and parents) regarding course planning for the Diploma Program or CIS diploma
  • collaborate with Grade Level Learning Lead and Learning Support on interventions for students
  •  organize an annual Career Fair to encourage exploration of post-secondary options
  • ensure that students satisfy the requirements for graduation
  • certify copies of diplomas, transcripts and report cards
  • plan graduation ceremony in collaboration with high school principal
  • maintain memberships in professional organizations (OSCA, ASCA, International ACAC)
  • attend meetings of various International School counselling groups in Singapore
  • coordinate and approve reference requests from students for colleges and universities, and support teachers in writing reference letters

Required Qualifications and Experience:

The position requires extensive experience with the college admission process, a strong understanding of students’ and family needs in preparing for college, and the ability to manage key relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Master’s Degree
  • Teaching credentials
  • 5 years experience as a full-time school counsellor
  • Knowledge with various university application systems including European, Canadian, American, Australian, UK and Singapore

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International school experience in a similar large international school
  • Certificate in Counselling
