Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join NLCS Jeju as a Vice Principal Academic in August 2021.

NLCS Jeju seeks a Vice Principal (Academic) to establish an ambitious and vibrant culture of scholarship which will extend to ensure that a sense of excellence is engrained across all areas of school life.  As Vice Principal, the post-holder will support the Principal on the future strategic development of NLCS Jeju and deputise for them across a range of duties.

North London Collegiate School Jeju is a large, thriving co-educational Day and Boarding School for over 1370 students aged 4-18. Our curriculum and ambitious academic ethos, together with our extensive co-curricular programme, reflect the school’s close links with NLCS in London, and provide a high quality British Independent School education in an international setting.

The successful candidate will be a high-calibre leader who can inspire students and lead staff confidently and effectively, but with a flexible approach.  This person will have a successful track record of senior leadership and delivery, and be tenacious, with an international outlook and willingness to embrace new cultures.

Our graduating students achieved an average IB Diploma score of 39 points (substantially above the world average of 30) and 51% of students scored 40+ points. Our alumni are now attending some of the world’s leading universities, from Cambridge to Yale, from Stanford to LSE, from Oxford to Imperial, and beyond.  NLCS Jeju holds the Korean national record for annual acceptances to Oxford and Cambridge colleges.

NLCS Jeju offers teachers a unique opportunity to live on one of Asia’s most spectacular islands located 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula. In 2007, UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee listed Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes as a World Natural Heritage site and with Jeju’s temperate climate, natural scenery and beaches it is an idyllic place to call home.   Jeju provides NLCS staff and their families with a safe, peaceful and breath-taking environment in which to live. The employment pages on the NLCS Jeju website contain further information about life in Jeju.

A competitive package will be offered to the successful candidate, which will include the following:

 Competitive salary.

 Accommodation.

 Relocation costs.

 Annual return flights to home country.

 Health insurance.

 Tuition fees for eligible children.

NLCS Jeju was the first NLCS International School to open its doors in 2011. It is located on the island of Jeju, in South Korea, but its proud heritage is from the United Kingdom, where in 1850 education pioneer Frances Mary Buss established the North London Collegiate School.

In just a few years NLCS Jeju has earned a reputation as one of the most prestigious and successful schools in East Asia. IB Diploma results are outstanding and the school’s graduates are attending some of the world’s leading universities, including Oxbridge and Ivy League colleges.

In keeping with the NLCS philosophy, the curriculum is aspirational and provides significant academic challenge for students. Students sit iGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11 and follow the IB Diploma Programme through Years 12 and 13.

NLCS Jeju offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package including accommodation, flights, health insurance and free places at the school for teachers’ children.

Location

The school is located on the picturesque island of Jeju, in South Korea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the first international school to be opened as part of the Global Education City on Jeju Island, which is becoming the centre of English education in Korea and the pre-eminent educational hub of Asia.

Jeju Island, 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is often described as one of Asia’s best-kept secrets. Jeju’s temperate climate, natural scenery and beaches make it a popular tourist destination for South Koreans as well as visitors from other parts of East Asia.
