Based in central Manchester, Chetham’s is not only the largest specialist music school for students aged 8-18 in the UK, but is also recognised as a national and international resource for music education.
The recent appointment of Alun Jones as Principal has been heralded as a really positive and forward looking move for the School. Alun is focused and committing himself to the School’s continued strategic development, its future proofing and developing the brand internationally. To allow this to happen, Alun is restructuring the leadership of the School and as a consequence has created the new and crucial role of Vice Principal.
Fundamentally, the Vice Principal role is all about supporting the Principal with the day-to-day running of the school. A remit that encompasses all aspects of staff performance and motivation, teaching and learning, providing vision and direction with the aim of delivering a balance between academic success and musical excellence. Equally you will be responsible for student development, wellbeing and welfare; and as a member of the School’s Leadership Group together with the Bursar and Director of Music, policy and procedures, budgets and financial planning and governance.
For the right person this an exciting opportunity, a chance to shape the role and really make it your own. The right person being someone who aspires to being a Head, but views this role as a crucial next step in their professional development.
So in addition to your ambition, you will already have a track record of experience and success in the classroom and more importantly proven leadership and management skills either as a Deputy Head or Head or Department. It’s important that your style is collaborative, collegiate and about building positive and effective working relationships at all levels, based on mutual respect. Equally, you’re someone who can operate successfully in a creative and vibrant learning environment, and with such a unique student community.
