If you want to be the best, then you should probably join us

Students in our academy made more progress than in any other school in London and made the best progress of any co-educational school in the country in 2014 (Best 8 score 1081.4). In addition, we have maintained our results in 2017 at a level significantly above national averages. That is great news for our students, the academy and our community, but there is so much more that we know can be achieved and you can help.

We have a relentless ambition to deliver continuing success to the young people we serve. Our approach is based on very simple principles: clear systems and extremely high expectations. We focus on the development of our students, their values and ultimately their academic success. We maximise the impact of teaching by providing clear leadership, minimising bureaucracy and effective support that have tangible results on the quality of teaching and outcomes for our students.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled, professional and experienced leader to be responsible for our Financial Management and Administrative systems within the academy.

The successful applicant will provide strategic and operational leadership, planning and management of school business and support functions, including Finance, Human Resources, Facilities, ICT, Health and Safety, and Student Services, all of which contribute to creating the conditions for all students to experience success.

You must be educated to a degree level or equivalent and hold a recognised qualification in Business, Finance or Administration. The successful candidate must be a confident leader who can function well as part of a team, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organised and have the ability to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to shape the lives of young people in Hackney. If you think you can help transform the opportunities for the community we serve, then we would like to hear from you.

About The City Academy, Hackney

At The City Academy, Hackney, we are dedicated to providing all the students in our community with the best possible educational opportunities. We believe excellence is achieved through three key ingredients: clear structures, high expectations and strong relationships. Our outstanding curriculum is built around 'The City Experience' which places equal value on the academic, creative, sporting, linguistic and personal development curricula.

We pride ourselves on being a school which offers young people an environment that enables them to meet our very high expectations. Our inspirational staff are skilled and committed and as a result of this, our students make exceptional progress.

In our academy, we expect students to work hard and to show dedication and commitment to their education. There are clear boundaries and rules which students must adhere to at all times. They must exhibit exemplary character and conduct and demonstrate respect, kindness and politeness towards each other and the adults. In return, we provide them with an excellent education both in terms of examination success and personal development helping them develop the skills and values they will need to be successful in later life.

We are part of the City of London Academies Trust, where we believe strongly in the transformational nature of education operating schools in areas of significant disadvantage. We understand that strong outcomes lead to improved life chances for our students, so we are unashamedly academic and unapologetically results driven. Each of our schools adopt a ‘warm/strict’ approach, combining high expectations with care and support. Our level of care means we never compromise on standards or expectations, ensuring that no student’s background becomes a reason for lowering the bar. Our schools maintain exemplary standards of behaviour, with systems, rituals and norms that instil strong habits. As a result, our schools provide an environment where our teachers can teach, and students can learn without disruption. We take great pride in fostering an exceptionally positive learning environment and we work meticulously to maintain our strong ethos and culture.

We combine the heritage and tradition of the Corporation of London with a genuinely innovative, enterprising, and entrepreneurial ethos. We look for ambitious and culturally aligned staff who are enthusiastic, hardworking, conscientious and energetic individuals. Our people want to work with students to ensure that, regardless of their background and circumstances, they will achieve to the best of their ability. In return, we offer a calm, orderly and respectful environment. We also offer a range of staff benefits and development opportunities which support your professional and career development. You will be able to learn from some of the best and most able practitioners in the country. There is a far-reaching commitment to ensuring that all our staff are given the access to excellent development and induction programmes.
