Your Opportunity to Teach in Auckland, New Zealand!

Auckland Normal Intermediate School - Year 7/8 Teacher, reference #7563 (start term 1 2019 or earlier by negotiation)

If you want to teach in a school that is considered a leader nationally in teaching Year 7/8, 11 - 13 year olds and live in Auckland, New Zealand - then here is the ideal opportunity for you!

Auckland is a wonderful combination of city style and opportunities, with endless natural outdoor activities on your doorstep. Auckland Normal Intermediate (ANI) is located in Mt Eden, known for its central location, history and great shops and cafes!

ANI is a high performing school characterised by exceptional levels of achievement by students, strong leadership across the school, high quality teaching programmes and a professional environment that focusses on student progress. Teachers at ANI are passionate and motivated leaders of learning in the Year 7/8 age group. High levels of collaboration across the school is strongly valued to focus on and enhances teachers practice and helps them create innovative and creative approaches to learning. ‘Normal’ schools enjoy a close relationship with initial teacher education providers and regularly host student teachers from Auckland University.

The school has been modernised into Learning Commons (or Innovative Learning Environments). This means there are usually two classes and two teachers in each space, with a variety of flexible spaces for students to break off into. This allows the students to develop independence and lead their own learning paths to a greater degree - better preparing them for our ever-changing digital society.

While Intermediates in New Zealand are primary schools, ANI has specialist teachers in Science, Physical Education, Technology and Languages. You may have a generalist primary background, or be a specific subject specialist teacher at the Year 7/8 level. Either way we’d love to hear from you, as this role is flexible.

ANI also offers the highly sought after International Baccalaureate, Primary Years Programme curriculum. The successful candidate will receive training in this, a great addition to your CV.

As the Successful Candidate, you will:

  • Receive a Normal School allowance of $2,000 attached to your salary - this is in recognition that you will have trainee teachers in your class throughout the year observing you and being mentored.

  • Find the staff at ANI are very social! There are many activities and events to take part in, even a free yoga and fitness class one morning and two afternoons per week.

  • Receive two days release for planning every term in addition to release time during the week.

  • Find an excellent system of support for teachers with experienced team leaders.

  • Enjoy a strong staff wellness programme.

If you are a dedicated, passionate and professional educator of this age group - this role is too good an opportunity to miss!

The Principal, Jill Farquharson, will be in London from 27th September - 2nd October 2018 and 12th - 15th October 2018 and will be available for interviews.
