Piers Morgan said he didn’t trust teachers who banned school skirts “as far as I can throw them” this morning during a debate.
The Good Morning Britain host was joined by co-host Susanna Reid, Tes’ mental health columnist Natasha Devon and former deputy head Ruth Kudzi as they discussed the news that 40 schools in the UK had banned skirts.
Devon argued that not only would a gender-neutral uniform allow girls to take part in physical activities throughout the day, it would also be fully inclusive for transgender students.
“There’s a lot of logic to the decision, because when you look at what children are doing in an average school day, things like physical education, taking part in drama… it worries me that girls are concerned about what they look like at school over being able to participate in the school day,” she said.

Morgan disagreed, saying: “I have a daughter and she’s 6 and a half and I don’t want a busybody teacher telling her, ‘You’re not allowed to wear a skirt to school.’”
To which Devon responded: “That’s the difference between you and me, Piers. I trust teachers and I trust the judgement of these teachers.”
“Really, you trust the judgement of these teachers? I don’t trust these teachers as far as I can throw them,” said Morgan.
