St Margaret Mary's College is a Townsville Girls Catholic High School, founded as in 1963 by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan.  The College accepts enrolments from girls Years 7 to 12, and offers a wide variety of subjects and vocational programs. The College is also noted for its many extracurricular activities, its commitment to students with special needs and its variety of service opportunities for students.

St Margaret Mary's College is seeking a Curriculum Middle Leader - Science to commence in Term 1 2021. This position holds a permanent teaching position with 7 hours release time and a 3-year middle leader cyclic contract.

The role of the Curriculum Leader – Science is to support the mission of St Margaret Mary’s College through leadership of the learning and teaching program. This involves developing appropriate curriculum in line with national, state and local requirements; ensuring that appropriate pedagogies are developed and implemented at all levels; ensuring the quality of student learning and the effectiveness of teacher practice through appropriate supervision; utilising thorough analysis of current data to inform decisions; developing appropriate partnerships within and outside of the college; and prudently administering available resources.

This role demonstrates leadership in three dimensions: leadership of teaching and learning; human leadership and strategic leadership. Curriculum Leaders also demonstrate an understanding of, commitment to and support for the values and ethos of Catholic education.

The Curriculum Leader is responsible for:

  • Leading the overall coordination of science curriculum areas taught in the college
  • The application of contemporary learning and teaching research and data analysis to classroom practice through professional development and supervision of staff engaged within the science faculty
  • Supervision of teachers engaged within the science faculty of curriculum responsibility
  • Induction of new teachers within the faculty of science curriculum responsibility
  • Pastoral care of staff engaged in the faculty of science curriculum responsibility
  • Other appropriate duties as required by the Principal and Senior Leadership Team and consistent with the level of expertise indicated above.

  • Secondary Science Teaching experience for at least 5 years or previous middle leader experience (desirable, not essential)
  • Innovative, proactive and flexible approach to student learning
  • Established knowledge of, and experience in, curriculum initiatives
  • Demonstrated strong and effective communication and collaboration with students, parents and staff
  • Current Queensland College of Teaching Registration or ability to obtain before commencement
