Job overview

Co-op Academy Oakwood is an inspiring place to work and learn and as part of the Co-op Academies Trust, aims to secure excellence in all aspects of its work.

Oakwood is one of twenty-five schools in the Trust, four of which are primary schools within the East Leeds locality. Whilst all schools in the Trust demonstrate a strong commitment to co- operative values and principles, the close proximity of the academies in East Leeds in particular has helped to facilitate co-operation and reinforce our belief that these values and principles are crucially important.  We know we must bring those values and more into the learning experiences for the pupils and use them to drive up academic standards further so it is vital that applicants are willing to fully embrace these. We have started this well, so we have some momentum, but we now need to embed the improvements across the school more securely so that all children consistently progress during their time at the academy.

We are seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to join our team from September 2020 so that we can progress even further as a school.  The right candidate will recognise the positives that we have in place already, but will contribute to identifying and supporting improvements that can make our school even stronger and enable our pupils to be the best that they can be. Our ideal candidate will be an ambitious and engaging leader; someone who can help shape and deliver a shared vision for the future and take a lead in developing the academy.

So, if you’re looking for a challenge, are a fantastic, inspiring teacher and are a committed educationalist with a belief in the power of co-operation to achieve great things – please get in touch with us.

Please visit our website  for an application form.

If you fancy an informal chat about the role and the academy, please contact Rimah Aasim, Headteacher on rimah.aasim@coopacademies.co.uk.

Please return your completed application electronically to Ross Dyson, Trust HR Advisor on ross.dyson@coopacademies.co.uk.

About  us:

Oakwood is situated in the Gipton area of Leeds, and is a two form entry school with places for 420 pupils. It became a Co-operative Academy in September 2013.

Co-op Academy Oakwood is committed to promoting community cohesion within a multi-cultural and mobile community. Our curriculum and the consistent approach to behaviour and attitudes results in a positive environment; where children are welcomed whatever their background and educational history and quickly become part of the school community.  Children have a very good attitude to school and to learning resulting in high levels of attendance.

An engaging, wide ranging, relevant curriculum creates a school where children of varied backgrounds and experiences can respect each other, contribute, learn, feel valued and make progress. We provide a high quality education with a focus on essential Maths and English skills. This is embedded in a curriculum that offers opportunities for children to achieve in all subjects.  The strong ethos of the school supported by the Co-operative values of the sponsor supports a curriculum that educates explicitly about different backgrounds and cultures within a system that strongly advocates British values, resulting in a positive inclusive atmosphere where effective education takes place.

The Academy is part of the Co-op Academies Trust, a multi-academy trust with academies in Leeds, Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent.

What we offer:

  • A supportive governing body.
  • Friendly and enthusiastic pupils and staff.
  • High quality, personalised professional development.
