Job overview

 HASMONEAN HIGH SCHOOL

HEAD OF FINANCE AND PREMISES

FULL TIME

REQUIRED ASAP

Salary: Negotiable

We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified and professional individual to join our school in this exciting role at the earliest opportunity. The role is reporting directly to the Executive Headteacher, and is a key role to provide high quality leadership and professional management of the school’s finance and business functions, HR and premises.

You will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of finance, as well as involvement in HR and premises management, in conjunction with the relevant Heads of school and department. In addition to setting the school’s budget and supporting the Executive Headteacher in setting and managing budgets across both campuses, you will ensure that the results of astute financial strategy and management have a direct positive impact on educational outcomes. Within the role you will lead, research and advise the Executive Team on additional funding, income and other business opportunities.

The school is one of the best schools in the country at outperforming expectations for their pupils and improving their future prospects. There is plenty that other schools could learn from Hasmonean High School’s success.” (Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT)

Hasmonean Grammar School for Boys opened in 1929, with the aim of providing Jewish children with a first class Jewish and secular education, a view not commonly held at the time. In 1936 Hasmonean Grammar School for Girls opened and both schools absorbed refugees from Europe whilst continuing to provide education and stability for the children during these challenging times. In 1984 Hasmonean High was created via the amalgamation of Hasmonean Boys’ and Girls’ Schools, although each currently remains on its own site.

Hasmonean has voluntary aided status and was one of the first Jewish schools to become an academy in October 2011.  We are consistently rated as one of the top non-selective state schools in the country.

Come and join our culturally diverse and friendly staff at Hasmonean.  We are an outstanding school with students who engage in their learning and enjoy being intellectually challenged. We require all our staff to respect the ethos of our Jewish school and are delighted to consider applications from candidates of all backgrounds.

Our school is a thriving community with a nursery on site for staff. A privately run childcare facility is available on site for children aged 0-4. The nursery offers places at a competitive price with additional discounts for Hasmonean staff. The facility accepts the government’s childcare vouchers.

Our training and development programmes for staff are very highly regarded.

Application forms are available on our website or please click on the link below.   If you have any questions or require further information about the school please contact www.hasmonean.co.uk or contact a.oconnor@hasmonean.co.uk

Closing date: Midday Thursday 18th October 2018. Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged.

The appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS clearance. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Hasmonean High School is a centre of educational excellence serving the Orthodox Jewish Community of North-West London. Boys and girls are taught separately on two campuses. Our school combines the secular with the religious within a framework of Torah Im Derech Eretz (respect for others, both within the school community and in the wider world).  Academic rigour is combined with in-depth Torah study, incorporating values such as chesed (caring/ kindness) and tzedokah (supporting charities).

Hasmonean is one of the best performing comprehensive schools in the country: our students attain consistently high standards in their GCSE, A/S and A Level examinations.  The vast majority of our graduates go on to study in world-class yeshivas and seminaries, before pursuing university education and a wide variety of careers. The highest expectations are shared by students, staff and parents.

Alongside our commitment to education is a determination that every Hasmonean student understands their place in their own community and wider British society.  Teaching them to embrace their place in the world around them is achieved through various aspects of our curriculum and a broader social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) educational programme.

It is also reflected in our school ethos of Torah im Derech Eretz and students have the opportunity to learn how to integrate with others from different backgrounds and  respect British Values and the different cultures that make up our society.  We expect our students to play a meaningful role in society and provide many opportunities during their school life for them to do so.

Underpinning this is a clear expectation, modelled by our staff, that everyone, regardless of their background should be treated with dignity, courtesy, kindness and respect.

We have a first-class staff dedicated to making our school a happy and purposeful school for students. Each student is valued, along with his or her parents or carers.  We aim to maximise each student’s potential within a caring, disciplined and ordered environment, and, in return, expect all students to respect and support the values on which our community is based.
